Almodóvar has started shooting his next film!

Pedro Almodóvar has begun shooting his next film which is called Pain & Glory, so we can expect it in 2019. This will be Penelope Cruz's sixth collaboration with one of the world's greatest directors (she previously headlined Volver and Broken Embraces and had supporting roles in Live Flesh, All About My Mother, and I'm So Excited). Antonio Banderas will also co-star, marking his 7th Pedro film. Other Almodóvar regulars appearing will be Kiti Mánver (6th time) and Julieta Serrano (5th time). Though Pedro pictures are usually all about the actresses occassionally he throws gorgeous men into the mix. And this looks like one of those times. In addition to Banderas in what we assume will be the lead role (?), we've got: Raúl Arévalo from I'm So Excited, Leonardo Sbaraglia (Wild Tales) and Asier Etxeandia (Ma Ma).
The movie will also be the feature debut for a young popular singer named Rosalía. She posted the following picture on her instagram...
The caption to this photo indicates it was her first day on set and she says that she always saw Pedro's films with her sister and mother so she's been dreaming of this since she was a little girl.
We're a little unclear on what it's about other than that it has something to do with a film director reflecting on his past and also on mothers. So, standard Pedro preoccupations!

Sounds like Almodóvar's 8½. A famous director recalls his youth and his career.
Penélope plays the mother so she won't be sharing any scenes with Banderas.
Hoping Penelope takes home the Emmy. Certainly would be nice to see her again as an Oscar nominee. I think the first and only time I saw a Black person in an Almodovar movie was The Skin I Live In. It jarred me so bad I was upset he never wants to photograph and use the Spanish speaking us.

Never seen Penélope with short hair, and I l-o-v-e it! She and Antonio always strike me as dream casting...at least in theory. It'll be interesting to see this match-up.

And Rosalía’s music is amazing. I could listen to her song ‘Catalina’ in a loop. Hopefully her music will also be famous out of Spain after this film.

Americans say “dro” with a twist in the tongue. But the portuguese and spanish “r” is sharp.
