Marriage Story Review

"They're saying this is for Adam Driver what Kramer vs Kramer was for Dustin Hoffman. More about him than about her.  Scarlett, to me, is the open question. By now it's Driver vs Phoenix for best actor." - Melchiades - Andrew

"Mini-shutout to Alda, whom I loved and thought did absolute wonders in his what, 3 or 4 scenes. Great review!" -Alex

Oscar's International Race Pt 5 - The Eye Candy

by Nathaniel R

Now that we've covered female directors, returning auteurs, trivia, and half of the trailers, and updated all the charts, let's do something lighter... and sexier... before we wrap up with the rest of the movie trailers.

We've selected 9 hunks for you to gawk at from the 93 films submitted. In the comments we trust that you'll let us know whose, uh, native tongue you'd most like to learn.

For educational purposes.

After the jump, beautiful men from Argentina, Norway, Pakistan, Thailand, and more...

NYFF Review: Marriage Story

by Murtada Elfadl

What happens to the love once a marriage ends? In his latest film Marriage Story, Noah Baumbach charts the dissolution of a marriage from the time it starts to falter to the breaking point when the couple in question Nicole (Scarlett Johansson) and Charlie (Adam Driver) are actively wishing death upon each other. The title is a clever play on divorce as we are supposed to find out what they once loved about each other by the end.

The film builds the memory of intimacy in throwaway moments....

Oscar's International Race Pt 4 - Returning Directors

by Nathaniel R

In the race for this year's Best International Feature Film, Parasite definitely has the lead but Bong Joon-ho is one of only 20 directors trying again with Oscar after previous submissions in this category. None of them have been nominated before except the LEGEND we'll start with...

THE RETURNING GIANT
Spain's most globally celebrated director, Pedro Almodóvar, is back in contention for the seventh time with Pain and Glory, his 21st feature at the age of 72. This finally makes him Spain's most submitted director of all time...

Oscar's International Race Pt 3a - Movie Trailers (A-K)

The Academy has announced the official submission list for the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category (renamed from Best Foreign-Language Film). This year we have 93 films competing.

As is our practice, we're sharing all the trailers (that could be found) having already shared stats and introduced you to the growing ranks of female directors. We'll be tweaking the Oscar charts periodically but they're mostly complete now. Cinema is a global artform and that's why we invest so much time in this. This is only the first 40+ trailers (L through Z countries still to come) but it should keep your eyes busy for awhile...
