Linking With Yourself

Vulture A fine appreciation of Jonathan Demme's stellar crime comedy Married to the Mob
Deadline Hilary Swank to play a "seductive female police detective" in a new film called Fatale.  Hmmm, not sure this is in her range. Remember Black Dahlia?
Slate What's fact and what's fiction in BlacKkKlansman?
AV Club Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth are playing hardball with Paramount over their Star Trek paychecks

Awards Daily Sasha has quite a different take on the Oscar's new decision to include some kind of "popular achievement" award. (One thing I think we can all agree on: since we actually know nothing about the Academy's plans with their extremely vague announcement, it's really hard to say anything about what it might be or look like or mean.
Salon Casey Affleck breaks his silence on his behavior on the set of I'm Still Here
Boy Culture Cher's ABBA album now available for pre-orders
/Film Japanese film Mirai getting a US release from GKids in the fall. Oscar possibility?
Gothamist oh dear. Sean Young is in trouble again. The Blade Runner actress is wanted for questioning about a burglarly in Queens.
Coming Soon Paul Rudd to co-star with himself in philosophical Netflix comedy Living With Yourself
Coming Soon Ava DuVernay has cast her Central Park Five. It's mostly unknowns but Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight) and Jovan Adepo (Fences) are in there, too.

I haven't seen Mirai yet, but if it's as good as Mamoru Hosada's other film, then I hope the Academy recognizes it. It's about time they nominate one of his films.

You totally missed the interview of all interviews. Yes, I'm talking about the Kathleen Turner interview.

Saw Mirai no Mirai in theaters in Japan. Weakest Mamoru Hosoda film to do date; it’s episodic structure does it not favors.

Swank was better in her part in Dahlia than Johansson was in hers and she was ostensibly better cast than swank. I’d rather see a miscast actor give their all then watch someone coast.

China Blue is so right,..... Kathleen Turner is delicious sassy and IDGAF outspoken in Vuture "In Conversation: Kathleen Turner The actress on righting Elizabeth Taylor’s wrongs, Donald Trump’s “gross” handshake, and the co-star she slapped. By David Marchese."

Yes @China Blue that interview was amazing - just like the Quincy Jones interview, someone who does not care what you think and is going to tell everything.

I can understand that Chris Pine does not want to lower his salary from prior films, but then again his presence in the films does not seem to contain any bankability. So probably they could remove him and decrease the budget without losing any goodwill from the General Public.

Chris Hemsworht on the other hand is give or take. He is not pivotal to this franchise nor any franchise to be quite far bar Thor. I appreciate both of them and find them to have so much charisma. Especially in more comedic and romantic roles, but the public either does not care or does not know about them enough to actually care.

After thinking about it a little more, maybe it'll be something like how the Indie Spirits have a separate award for the lower-budgeted films. If the Academy split out Best Picture between low-budget and higher-budget, I just might see this working.

Married to the mob - so great! One of my favorite Pfeiffer films, and also one of my favorite Demme.

Momentum might be on the side of Mirai even if it's not the strongest film from Mamoru Hosoda. Summer Wars had good buzz when it was eligible and Your Name did very well for itself with critics groups. GKids has been really successful at getting international animation nominated at the Oscars. They had their hands in everything from Chico & Rita to The Secret of Kells. They distributed 10 films that received Animated Feature nominations since 2009. They have two other films they could focus on coming out (The Night is Short, Walk On and The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales (from the creators of Ernest & Celestine)), but they also tend to spread the love and campaign as big as they can for all their eligible features and shorts. One or two usually make the cut. The Rabbi's Cat (2012) was the only time they've missed since 2009.

Oh, and just pay the Chrises, paramount! It’s their original contract.

Mark: I would agree with that, if the Kelvinverse's soft reboot was in the service of an equally great but modern version of what Star Trek was doing in the 60s. Y'know, a studio still backing a financially struggling but artistically accomplished horse? But even the best film of that series, Beyond, is still the bland version of good.

I liked the article about BlancKkKlansman, but I strongly recommend an awsome website that compares actual facts with film depictions. You'll find articles about practically every film in recent years that was based on real events. If you visit it, check out the one on Hidden Figures.

Sort of agree with Sasha. But still have worries.

Paramount can re-cast Hemsworth or get Chris Pratt to star as Captain Kirk
