Beauty Break: Toronto Red Carpet

by Murtada Elfadl

The reviews and tweets are coming in fast and furious from Toronto. Let's take a break from all that and look at the many premieres from the weekend and the many beautiful people who walked the carpet.

If Beale Street Could Talk brought together (L-R) Brian Tyree Henry, Regina King, Colman Domingo, Kiki Layne, Stephan James, Barry Jenkins and Teyonah Parris.

A pair of heartthrobs - one A Beautiful Boy and the other living the High Life

Two stars meeting their directors on the carpet; Carey Mulligan with Paul Dano from Wildlife and Lady Gaga with Bradley Cooper. You know their movie.

Two of the Widows - Viola Davis and Elizabeth Debicki - appropriately in black.

And finally another one of Viola, just because it's a really funny one.

Come up with a fun caption for the last photo.

Unfortunate two of the stars of Beale Street arrived in prom dresses.

I walked right by Carey Mulligan today at the Wildlife screening but I didn't even regonzie her and kept on walking! I was so mad at myself when I saw her on stage later. I guess I only think of her as a brunette and it didn't register for me.

Carey Mulligan is part of this group that always existed: actors who hates Hollywood, but are always listening the mermaid song and coming back.

For fuck's sake, Carey Mulligan is so damn boring!

You thought Olivia Colman was going to wrap up that Oscar in September? Regina King has something to say about that.

Did Philip Treacy do GaGa's hat.

markgordonuk - the whole outfit was by Armani including the hat. It appeared like that on the runway in Armani Prive's last couture collection.

I'm with Suzanne on this one. Regina King is getting superlative reviews. Plus, she has the advantage of a 30-plus year career in Hollywood during which she's worked with errbody as both an actress and director.

I hope you guys are right about Regina King’s chances. It’s shaping up to be a two-woman race in Supp. Actress now that reviews are coming in. On paper, Colman’s role is slightly more in the Academy’s wheelhouse (real person, showy theatrics). However, King’s role sounds like this movie’s Juan (Mahershala Ali in Moonlight), the heart of the script. At the end of the day, though, I’ll be happy for either one of these gifted thesps.
