50 Days til Oscar, Ally!

Ladies and gentleman.... ALLY"

Not a still from the movie. They've actually put the Ally billboard up in Los Angeles in the same location it's supposed to be seen within the movie.

You have to hand it to the Warner Bros teams behind A Star is Born publicity both during its leggy run (now with a nearly $400 million global gross on a $36 million budget) and during awards season where it has consistently performed. They keep thinking of new ways to keep the film in people's minds, too, like this funny specific stunt pictured here. Will it feel like overkill by the time Academy members are voting. To some, sure, but those are likely the people who weren't going to vote for it anyway.

Good news for Glenn (or Olivia, I suppose) is the "will the Academy really want to give Gaga TWO Oscars" conversation shall commence next week, after the Globes.

I can't believe how critically lauded this movie is. Were it simply a commercial success like Bohemian Rhapsody I wouldn't be so on edge about Close. And I know Colman is her most serious rival but I also believe her light screen time will hinder her.

I live in West Hollywood and stumbled upon this yesterday on my morning jog. It set a really bleak tone for my day. Claiming Lady Gaga deserves the Best Actress Academy Award over Glenn, Olivia, Toni, Carey, Weisz, Theron, Nicole, Julia, etc., etc. is tantamount to saying Whitney Houston (whom I adore and continue to worship) deserved it in 1992 for THE BODYGUARD over Emma Thompson in HOWARD’S END (or any of the other nominees that year: Pfeiffer in LOVE FIELD, Sarandon in LORENZO’S OIL).

if Gaga wins the globes of best actress will be everything that the great Glenn close will need to finally win the SAG-Bafta-Independent-Oscar for best actress. The black lash against the acting talented of Mrs. Gaga will be so much that no marketing group will change that and even could take the original song Oscar for the hands of Gaga (Kendrick win in her place).

Glenn will be the next winner of the Best Actress Oscar. With much blood or little. Marquise and Alex Forest would be proud.

Overkill for sure. This film sure had/has a super aggressive marketing campaign, but butts got into seats.

I don't think this will change anything. People who loved the film will probably dig this and think it's clever. People who disliked it or were more neutral are probably sick of hearing of this film at this point.

I love to read articles here, but sometimes I wonder if the audience is living in a sense of pure delusion related with their faves (Kidman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis and now Glenn Close). Saying Close will win after losing GG, with zero guarantees to win SAG-AFTA (The pure actors branch is gone) and flopping by critics mentions so far and narrative per media. If any case, the biggest beneficiary of Gaga would be Colman, considering she's picking at the right moment, also her film and the current press in Britain is pushing hard for her as alternative. Winning the GG will be the beginning of the drums.

But anyway, it would be another year of failed dreams.

I like A Star is Born ok, , it's beautiful, great music, vanity project for Bradley Cooper (who is a confident director, but a better actor) not great, just good. And I really don't get all the Gaga winning Awards thing, she's adequately cast but I can't say she blew my mind; it's not a difficult character and if she was not Lady Gaga nobody would'be been so amazed by an effective but not brilliant performance; It's almost criminal that the GG snubbed extraordinary and much more deserving performances from Carey Mulligan ( so great in Wildlife), Toni Collette ( Hereditary, that is a performance for the ages), Kathryn Hahn ( Private Life) , Julia Roberts (Ben is Back) and Glenn Close ( who is a masterclass in The Wife even if the film is boring as hell, but hey, Gary Oldman won with a phenomenal performance in the rather third-rate Darkest Hour ).

Leon, delusion is easier than reality.
