It's Finally Here -- Happy Oscar Day!

Just chanced upon this image of Best Actress competitors Judy Holliday and Gloria Swanson freaking out with joy at Jose Ferrer's Oscar win for Cyrano de Bergerac (1950). Gloria, naughty naughty, he just beat your amazing costar William Holden in Sunset Boulevard!

After the jump, a very random Beauty Break of glorious moments from past Oscar nights to whet your appetite for tonight...

LOL at Rita Moreno's speech and Bob Hope saying "As I recall the rules of the Academy, she gets to keep the Oscar but Rock (Hudson, who presented it to her) must be returned to the studio before midnight."

Who is that lady sitting next to Vivien Leigh?

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commenterforever1267

forever12167: I'm pretty sure it's Olivia de Havilland. Must be the Gone with the Wind night.

And is that Michael Curtiz with Joan Crawford? Great director and great star!

You mean "Queen Glenn's Coronation Day"!

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterTyler

I'm just gonna be this annoying little gnat today and tell people that Olivia Colman has more than a reasonable chance of winning today. Hope for the best, expect something less (Colman winning would be far from the worst).

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterBruno

As deserving as Colman is, it would be totally humiliating for Glenn Close to lose again at this stage, and I for one don't want to see that unfold. Glenn for the win!

That 1950 best actress race was perhaps the best line-up ever. And that shot of Judy, Gloria, and Jose is dynamite.

I was scrolling through these great pictures and Barbra's voice came into my mind singing, "memories, from the corner of my mind, misty water coloured memories ... from the way we were."

Whatever happens tonight let's hope for some great dreamy shots of actions and reactions.
Give me some more memories.

This post really captures the magic of Oscar night

When are the Film Bitch Acting Awards Happening.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commentermarkgordonuk

@Bruno

If Close loses burn down the whole operation. By doing so Streep's 21 nods are rendered worthless.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtful

Where was Hattie McDaniel with the other Gone with the Wind winners? Wait, let me guess

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commenterken s

@/3rtful

You wish, sucker!!!

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commenterrdf

@/3rtful: Pretty much...pretty much...

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterBruno

Is that Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly? That picture is STUNNING.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

Glenn Close will be an Oscar winner come tomorrow morning.
Won't begrudge Colman for winning for a fantastic performance but Glenn freakin Close will and must not be ignored!

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterMustafa

Brie Larson + Alicia Vikander were such an underwhelming pair of Winners.

Vivien Leigh was really beautiful.

Audrey+Grace. The embodiment of old Hollywood Magic.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

The Greta Gerwig "I love him" when Guillermo del Toro double checks the envelope before jubilantly accepting the Best Picture Oscar warms my jaded heart.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterJakey

Maybe there will be a shocking upset and Ethan Hawke will win on a write in...oh wait, they don't allow that. Shame. None of the 5 nominated lead actors can compare with his masterpiece.

That said, Go Glenn Go !!! Too bad Olivia isn't nominated in Supporting. Would've been an easy and well deserved win.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterPatryk

That would be so cool if they had 102 yr old Olivia de Havilland present Beat Picture cus satellite from Paris. Don’t ignore the legends Academy!!

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

@Patryk If only that had happened. Yeah Olivia's a lead but not as much as Emma Stone. If they were gonna do that, may as well have put Olivia there and she would've most certainly have won. Not to knock Regina King (or Rachel Weisz, who's won before), but that would've been a satisfying solution to this problem.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterBruno

William Holden co-starred not only with Swanson but with Holliday as well. Both women are ecstatic that he lost, I guess...

Happy Oscar night, everyone!

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterTheDrMistery

All my picks - The Favourite (Picture), Bradley Cooper, Olivia Colman, Richard E. Grant, and Rachel Weisz - will most probably lose tonight. Still, I am looking forward to watching and I am excited to see Glenn Close and Regina King slay their speeches.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commentergoodbar

The ladies of The Favourite are all leads. They should’ve been taken out of regular competition and given a special Oscar. It would’ve been the only fair solution.

February 24, 2019 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

Man, Mahershala does not look happy to be in that picture with ryan. He’s just like “Yeah, I saw what you did to jazz.”
