Best Dressed Best Actress? (...and a look at the whole decade, too)
Mandatory Red Carpet Lineup Poll!
P.S. In case you've forgotten about our Oscar doll fantasy (You haven't, right?) the whole collection is embedded after the jump. Just think - there's only one more Oscar season to go to complete the decade in film !!! Then we can do all sorts of silly stuff with statistics...
Well, not that we don't already but it will be much easier with percentages, being a 10 year block.
The big question looking over this huge block of lovelies is who is back next year to up her count? The leader this decade is Meryl Streep (5 times) with Amy Adams & Jennifer Lawrence tied for runner up in ubiquity (4 times). The three women vying for third place for the decade: Michelle Williams, Octavia Spencer, and Emma Stone (3 each). Will any of those six women be back for 2019 or will the returnees be more surprising?
We could stare at this for hours... and obviously have as this takes time in Photoshop. But here's a final question to make this comments section particularly robust (stop, Nathaniel, stop. There's already so much to discuss).
Of the women who've only shown up once this decade, who would you most love to see back for 2019? (you get two fantasy picks only - don't bother looking up projects!)

I know some people said it was presumptuous of her to wear gold but I loved Glenn Close's gown. She looked amazing and the color really becomes her.
I'd love to see Rachel Weisz and Charlotte Rampling back again (and to be honest Sally Field as well).
TBH I didn't particularly like any of the dresses for the best actress nominees. I guess Gaga was my "favorite"?
Would love to see Laurie Metcalf and Isabelle Huppert back. I'm cautiously crossing my fingers for Huppert's "Frankie". She has the title role in the wonderful Ira Sachs's new film this year (I've been following this project for the past year!).
I love Colman's dress - she looked like a deconstructed peacock, which seemed really at one with the costumes in her movie, all the plumage and pomp
Marion Cotillard
Lupita Nyong'o
Lesley Manville & Melissa Leo
Gaga was easily the best dressed in that category, I think.
In terms of two of the one-timers I'd want to see back... Patricia Arquette is definitely my #1. Rachel Weisz would probably be #2--I'm glad she seems to be having a career resurgence.
Honorable mentions go to Lupita Nyong'o (who I'd love to see nominated next year for Us--and yes I'm saying that just based on the trailer), Helen Hunt, Marion Cotillard, Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Ruth Negga, and Laurie Metcalf.
Shoutout to Rosamund Pike and Kate Winslet and Regina King too--I LOVE ACTRESSES, OKAY?!
Laurie Metcalf and Brie Larson
Sally Field. Should've been 3/3. Perennical, pet, Nick Davis, Jennifer Lawrence and Streep are C*nts, you'll never be rid of me. MWAHAHA.
I'm going with Glenn Close because she looked good, and it was a 46 lb. train. It was a fantasy dress and she wore it well. May she be back again soon.
But for next year, I would love to see Annette Benning, because she is doing great work each time out. She is so intelligent and interesting, and overdue. Also, Keira Knightley, I would like to see her on the Oscar circuit because she brings great fashion and some humour and wit.
Give me Bening, Huppert, Metcalf, Nyong'o, Wallis. Hathaway doing a victory lap for a plum role would be nice too, but those are my top five.
Lady Gaga wins - she looked perfect and chose something that was both surprising, but very her. Glenn looked amazing, but I think her dress needed to be against a black/dark background (which I think her people must have assumed would happen). On the red carpet, it looks good, but loses the impact. Colman, Aparcio, and McCarthy look great too. In particular, McCarthy is in one of my favorites looks ever, and I love that she wore pants.
Given how graceful she was this season, I'd love to see Melissa McCarthy return. I'd also be happy seeing Bening, Nyongo, Davis, and Williams make it back. This decade has had some great nominees.
I don’t care - McCarthy turned it out when she needed to and I loved it.
Glenn’s dress makes me sad.
I love Olivia more than most but she should have worn her Globes dress to get her Oscar - this just didn’t fit.
I expected more from Gaga and I’m surprised I don’t like it at all.
Yalitza needed a way bolder/darker colour.
Brie Larson’s outfit still makes me mad - she is the worst dressed BA winner this decade and Frances didn’t even try 😂
For our veterans, I’d love to see Helena Bonham Carter, Reese Witherspoon, Isabelle Huppert, Keira Knightley, and Lesley Manville return, preferably in the same project.
Then there are the rookies I’d love to see more of as I have so
Many questions - can Hollywood figure out what to do with Lupita Nyong’o? Or her sisters, Naomie Harris and Ruth Negga? will Rosamund Pike ever top Gone Girl? Will Marvel swallow Brie Larson like it did Elizabeth Olsen? Now that Oscar knows who Rachel McAdams is, will they notice her again? Where in the world is Alicia Vikander after her amazing debut year? Is Felicity Jones with her? Is Hailee Steinfeld too focused on music to get another great role? (Side note: I pretend her nomination is for Edge if Seventeen).
However, if I had to guess just one of these women to return ... I’d wager on Margot Robbie who seems to be at the beginning of a long career. She’s such a transformative actress that clearly loves “the craft” and it looks like Hollywood itself loves her too.
Bening fans will be happy Oscar-wise, before she’s Close’s current age, probably in the next five years.
I would love to see Kate Winslet and Lupita next year.
Honorable mentions: Keira Knightley and Julianne Moore.
On another note, who do you think is the biggest overlook of the decade? For me it's Emily Blunt.
Glenn might hav lose Best Actress but tt dress!!! Sorry, Olivia but Glenn is the Queen of the Night in tt gorgeous gold lame dress, complete w tt magnificent train!! Best Actess or not, she IS her own Oscar! 😁
I like Gaga's hair n her obvious homage to Breakfast at Tiffany's/Holly Golightly, but the boxy waist ruined the whole look for me.
Aparicio's soft blue flowy dress is the runner up to me. She looks like a Princess in tt dreamy gown
I thought Glenn looked the best. She looked like royalty.
I would like to see Naomi's Harris and Berenice Bejo again. I believe they still have great and greater performances in them. Roberts and Robbie have the best chance of getting nominated again. If Arquette or Nyong'o do something great they get in but they need to be cast! The movie industry doesn't know what to do with Pike after THAT performance in Gone Girl. Maybe Knightley is the new Diane Keaton- getting nominated once each decade. She's young enough that it might happen.
Marion and Benning
Lupita Nyong'o and Naomie Harris.
I think the REAL question is who is best dressed of the decade?
I'm saying Cate Blanchett in 2015.
Bummed that Judi and Natalie didn't show up in their years to make it a complete set.
Huppert and Rampling... preferably for the same film.
Othiefia Stoleman looked awful.
Sally and Julia.
Elena definitely Emily Blunt at least 5 times she's been worthy 2006,2009,2015,2016 and this year.
Lesley Manville and Laurie Metcalf!
OMG, Othiefia Stoleman, are you guys getting how fetch I am yet?
Glenn made a fashion mistake with that golden and certainly uncomfortable Carolina Herrera. Her Armani at the Vanity Fair party was way more like her.
Rampling and Huppert, obviously.
Two from that list is TOO hard. Of the younger ones I'm completely smitten with every performance turned in by Margot Robbie and Brie Larson. For the over 40s, I would chose Olivia Colman and Regina King; I think they're both going to be multi-Oscar winners before they retire.
Fav BA dress? Lady Gaga.
I'm going to be very specific... and throw in some wishful thinking!
Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard
and
Lesley Manville as Mrs. Danvers, please!!!!!
I'm going to cheat at my own rules and choose two people of multiple kinds that I'd like to see back (though mostly i'd like to see a shocking year of mostly newbies)
TWO PEOPLE WHO I WOULD MOST LIKE TO SEE RETURN THIS YEAR TO CLOSE THE DECADE WITH TWO NOMS DURING IT:
Laura Dern
Anne Hathaway
TWO PEOPLE I WOULD LIKE MOST TO SEE UP THEIR NUMBER TO CLOSE THE DECADE WELL:
Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman
(Yes, a double nom so that she can be 'runner up' to streep with 4 nominations during the 10s)
TWO PEOPLE I WOULD LIKE TO SEE RETURN TO OSCAR NOMS THAT WEREN'T EVER NOMINATED THIS DECADE:
Diane Keaton (her once a decade record will be spoiled unless she shows up this year!)
Tilda Swinton
Laura Dern and Julianne Moore.
I need Melissa McCarthy to win for Gipsy and Rosamund Pike to return.
No more Meryl, Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett but the later is thankfully talking about retirement.
I honestly haven't a clue when it comes to fashion but I thought Olivia Colman looked quite splendid.
I would love to see Rachel McAdams and Naomi Watts back.
Lupita and Brie
I LOVED Melissa McCarthy's look. formal pants and on-trend cape. j'adore. (and as a larger person myself, I know how hard it is to look and feel glamorous - she looks stunning here).
I'm going to need to see Lupita N'yongo and Anne Hathaway back up there.
Obvs Glenn and Annette
Othiefia better not be stealing votes here too
Glenn Close and Annette Bening.
Both winning, please.
Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Isabelle Huppert to return -- to WIN.
Viola Davis because we can never have enough Viola Davis.
The most snubbed actress this decade, shoulda been nominated at least 3 or 4 times this decade: KIRSTEN DUNST. She deserved to win for Melancholia, a legendary performance that everyone will remember far, far more than The Iron Lady. Should have been nominated for The Beguiled, Bachelorette, and/or All Good Things
