I had this theory ¾th of the way through Russian Doll that Oatmeal was responsible for the time loop. Cats, man. Cats. You never know what's really going on with them and multiple lives are no big deal.
P.S. Natasha Lyonne is an incredible actress and I think it's time the world spoke it as one.

This show looks legitimately great, but I can't bring myself to watch it right now - a show with the main character constantly dying, I can't do it.
Off to watch Bob's Burgers reruns and Paddington 2 until I have more mental fortitude. Alex Trebek's pancreatic cancer may have temporarily broken me.

Thrilled to see the Odessa diner in one of the last episodes. The cat and the East Village setting are also important characters. LOVED this show!h
30 minute episodes are a godsend (more shows need this!). no bloat. its a thrilling lean mean funny machine.
Since there were a lot of unanswered questions (for the better) in the finale, your theory could still be true. Also, the show was incredible.
About halfway through watching this series, I went back and rewatched episode 1 and found all sorts of delicious foreshadowing. I loved the show.
