Links: Mike & Maleficent & Marvel & The Mother

Spirit Airlines are decorating their planes to "soar" with Dumbo. That seems like a costly promotion, there!
Slant ranks all the Marvel films. I found this interesting because it's a) insane and b) the people they've assigned to write up the movies dont necessarily agree with their ranking in the list so it's weirdly schizophrenic
/Film confusing and bizarre history of Captain Marvel in the comic books
THR Idris Elba in talks to replace Will Smith in the Suicide Squad sequel

After the jump Maleficent 2's teaser poster, Gregg Araki's new series, Rock Hudson, Magic Mike casting, and more...

Variety on Gregg Araki's imagination unleashed for his first tv series "Now Apocalypse"  (Is this the first time I've wanted Starz? Want this)
MCN I totally agree with this tweet thread on the look of Marvel films... it's why Black Panther was such an anomaly (and Oscar winner)
• Playbill Isabelle Huppert returns to the New York stage with The Mother
Film School Rejects and interview with comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis (who created Miles Morales) after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's Oscar win
• Broadway Buzz Magic Mike the Musical premieres in Boston this November before a Broadway run and they're gearing up to cast. They're looking for triple-threat men (must be able to sing, dance, and act) between 18-30 in great physical shape to self-tape auditions by March 17th.
CBR the names being floated as co-lead of Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow movie - please dont go with Watson when you have exciting prospects like unknowns or Florence Pugh!
Towleroad Greg Berlanti's Rock Hudson biopic is moving forward with Richard LaGravanese writing the screenplay

P.S. NEW POSTER
We'd have made a bigger deal about Maleficent 2 getting a new poster and title but when you dont even include Michelle Pfeiffer on the promotional art we lose interest. The film is now dubbed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which seems like a weird title since the first film went to such lengths to make the sorceress into the good guy. Also have they given her a pointy shoulder to go with her pointy cheeks. Will anyone in the theaters be safe from the combined glass-cuttingly sharp cheekbones of Angelina & La Pfeiffer?

Who will they cast as Rock Hudson? Such a beautiful face.

What a coincidence-I am also looking for men between 18-30 in great physical shape who can sing and dance. 😆

John T - what's your "project" called?

March 7, 2019 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Maleficent is Angelina Jolie's posterity role. We'll remember her in the future thanks to this role. It's her Scarlett O'Hara, her Miss Daisy, her Catwoman.

30 is a weird cut-off age for Magic Mike... Barring Alex Pettyfer, weren't all of the actors in the film over 30?

March 7, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterTyler

They're casting a "kickass female [James Bond]" who's roughly 25? Please.

Get Rose Byrne.

Nathaniel-I'm debating between "How to Marry a Channing Tatum" or "How to Succeed in Dating While Trying Way too Hard"

I am glad Jolie is acting again.

I, also, will volunteer my services in Boston. I'm just that kind of person!

Tyler -- what's even weirder still is that its a stage musical where age doesn't matter even half as much as it does in the movies.

Emma Watson in Black Widow? NO!!!! She's wrong for that film.

Florence Pugh would be awesome as someone Romanoff would mentor or be a villain yet I think the person that should play the main villain is Jena Malone. Look, the Black Widow story has to feature scenes of the young Romanoff being trained but also have someone who was her equal but ended up being extremely dangerous. Malone is the perfect choice. She's a day older than Scarlett and can tap into anything that is dark. I would have Pugh be Malone's partner with Elizabeth Olsen returning as Scarlet Witch to be Romanoff's partner.

There's your film. Now where's my cut of the profits?

I know this is SO out of topic, but this trailer:

https://www.wmagazine.com/story/cate-blanchett-marina-abramovic-documentary-now-trailer

Cate Blanchett is INCREDIBLE as Marina Abramovic!!

Let that be the next movie project and Blanchett is gonna get her 3rd Oscar

manuel -- strange that article talks all about the clip but then the actual clip with the article is a trailer for a different episode of the series.

March 7, 2019 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Are they making an actual musical or just a Chipendales review with singing?

Can I just say how much I love how unapologetically erotic and queer Apocalypse Now looks?

March 7, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

Maybe get Mila Kunis for the Black Widow movie? She speaks Russian and has ballet training- I believe the characters have some experience in that discipline. Or if you want out of the box Gemma Chan. She is gorgeous, athletic, and talented.

Great poster for another sequel we don't need. All the Marvel movies look the same after a while- I realized when I was watching " Iron Man 3' and thought gee I already saw this. The "Magic Mike" actors will obviously will have to look good in jockstraps. And I agree Pedro- who are they going toe get to play Rock Hudson-Emma Stone could be Doris Day

March 9, 2019 | Unregistered CommenterJaragon

Hopefully the tagline for Malificent 2 means the film reveals the other film ever happened and she is actually a villain now.
