Beauty vs Beast: Devils of the Details

Jason from MNPP here with a "Beauty vs Beast" first -- last week when we had you face down the leading ladies of The Devil Wears Prada for its 13th anniversary several of you took to the comments with a suggestion of another competition from this film that you desired, and I thought it fine enough to bring us back here just one week later. The film really is a four-hander -- venture outside of the Runway offices and it falls apart, but the casting done to fill out those fashion hallways was divine. So let's hit up those other two class acts...

PREVIOUSLY The winner of last week's DWP competition was of course, with little surprise, Meryl Streep's De La Renta swathed demoness Miranda Priestley, with 84% of your vote. Said Val:

"Hathaway is wonderful here. The movie wouldn't work at all if her transformation wasn't believable, but let's be for real, in a movie with plenty of stars turns, there is very much one sun at the center. Streep makes Miranda's quiet wrath a thing of beauty. Minimal tricks (at least they aren't showing here), just a great actor clearly enjoying a great role."

At least Nigel tries to help Andi out with her job. Emily is fabulous but is seriously getting satisfaction out of Andi struggling. I can't imagine working with her. Plus she keeps picking the wrong assistants!

Wow, the suggestion box works. Girding my loins for this challenge.

Nigel translates the fashion world to Andrea, because he simultaneously understands both her and Miranda. In a way, this makes him the most fantastical part of the movie, and a bit of audience wish fulfillment. Emily is exaggerated, but far more likely to exist. Both are awesome.

Any chance you can do Nate vs. Christian Thompson next week? (Ducks)

Yeah, I love them both as characters, but I voted for Nigel, because I am certain he is going to lose by a much bigger margin than he deserves. And I'd much rather be friends with him than Emily.

Emily! I LOVE Stanley Tucci, but Blunt's performance is indelible!

Jason, it can't be said enough that your pros and cons consistently delight.

I'm cackling at "shan't" all by itself.

Suzanne: my sentiments exactly. Which is also why I voted for Hathaway in the last one, fully knowing she'd lose by a landslide.

How about the two love interests (Adrian Grenier v. Simon Baker)? That might be a more even match, though also a much more boring one.

emily - the original and the best

Another vote for Nate vs Christian contest next week.

My pick is Emily because is basically the only thing i love from the movie. I'm not a Streep fan but i found her performance in Postcards from the Edge funnier (and more complex) than this.

The ones who says that vote for Nigel just as support because he is going to lose, what i hear is this :-O and i wanna hear this :-*

I voted for Emily using my phone and Nigel using my computer because I simply can’t choose. Love then both!

For next week, I will vote for Christian because Nate - no! Shan’t. No one pays $5 for a strawberry.

A much tougher choice than last week, both characters have such great lines and great reactions.
I concede that Nigel is the nicer person (to Andi), however I go with Emily Blunt.

This was her second film role ever, she was thrown into deep water, and Blunt is brilliant and relentlessly funny. Her comic timing is up there with the best in the business, she reminds me of Maggie Smith, or Kristin Scott Thomas. There is no scene she can't steal, and no line she doesn't make hilariously repeatable. What a debut. (I expected Stanley Tucci to be great, Emily was the surprise)

I... can't. I just can't.
