After taking audiences through the treacherous WWI battlefields in the Oscar-winning epic All Quiet on the Western Front, director Edward Berger crafts a different exercise in tension in the form of a Pope election with Conclave, a high-stakes thriller based on the 2016 novel by Robert Harris that is full of high-stakes political intrigue and stellar performances...

Review: "Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody" Is a Lovable Mess

By: Christopher James

No one loves their cliches more than the biopic genre. However, no music biopic has blown through every cliche with such quick and reckless abandon as Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody. That’s not necessarily an insult.

Few pop culture icons loom as large as Whitney Houston, “The Voice,” who holds the record for seven consecutive number one singles atop the Billboard Top 100. Following the 9/11 attacks, to stave off the potential of economically disastrous lawsuits against the airlines, the United States Attorney General assigns respected lawyer Kenneth Feinberg (Michael Keaton) as the Special Master of the fund allocated to compensate victims and their families of the attacks...

Film Review: "Supernova"

by Christopher James

Who wouldn’t want to see Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth in love?

The suave former Mr. Darcy would make the perfect husband for a cocktail-swirling Tucci. On paper, any movie starring these two men as lovers would be a real winner. Even though they are both straight, they've eached proven that they can realistically and empathetically play gay without leaning on stereotypes. Plus, Stanley Tucci's cookbooks (and the accompanying photo shoot) have done more for the gay community than any other straight moviestar ally. Yet, Supernova is a far cry from any delightful rom-com or charming late-in-life love story. Writer/director Harry Macqueen’s film is a much more serious and somber affair.

While both Tucci and Firth are in fine form, Supernova is more of a slog than an engrossing drama...
