Really fun article but the part on Sarandon and Dern is a major misread of the mid-90s. Sarandon was at the very peak of her fame in 1994, headlining a sleeper blockbuster (The Client) and building yet more momentum to win her inevitable Oscar win the following year. She should have bested Dern (who we loooove, don't get us wrong).

• BBC Sad news. The Australian actress Ningali Lawford-Wolf, who you might have seen in films like Rabbit-Proof Fence or Bran Nue Dae, and who recently was nominated for the AACTA Best Actress prize for Last Cab to Darwin (2015) has died in Scotland. She was only 51

• Towleroad "The Inheritance" an epic gay play is coming to Broadway. It was already a big hit at the Olivier Awards in London so are the Tonys next?
• Playbill Tony Yazbeck, one of our very favourite Broadway stars and one of the best dancers on the planet, will play silent movie superstar Rudolph Valentino in readings of a new musical Valentino. We don't understand how Yazbeck hasn't gotten a big screen opportunity yet as he's so easy on the eyes and gifted, too.
• Broadway World Jonathan Groff and Tammy Blanchard will star in an Off Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors that starts next month. Groff is the second uber hot actor in a row to play Seymour (Gyllenhaal did it a few years ago in one of his frequent but very brief stage stints between movie roles) What's with casting inarguable hotties as the most famous musical theater nerd role?
• Broadway World "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" is getting a national tour in early 2020. Have you ever seen Kristin Chenoweth's adorable/exasperating "My New Philosophy" from that 1999 show? If you've ever wondered how she got famous this was it (it led to a brief eponymous network sitcom in 2001 and then she really exploded with 2003's Broadway mega-blockbuster Wicked). Here it is...

I NEED more details about Let Them All Talk!!! Filming in NYC for a couple days and social media says it is then headed for the Queen Mary 2 where most of the movie will take place. Streep and Soderbergh must have loved working together on Laundromat. So now there is LTAT filming in fall right before Streep films The Prom in Dec. At 70 years old she is still very much in demand.
And I think she just ended one of the best decades of her career! Won an Oscar, Kennedy Center Honor, Golden Globe Lifetime achievement, worked with Frears, Spielberg, Soderbergh, 5 Oscar nominations! If she gets one for The Laundromat or Little Women she will have earned 6 nominations which TIES her 80’s streak.
Whoops! Forgot won an Emmy and starred in TV series (BLL)!
It is very sad about Ningali Lawford-Wolf but I seem to remember that the winner of AACTA (the Australian Oscar) as Best Actress was Kate Winslet for The Dressmaker.
Meryl Streep and Gemma Chan making a secret movie is happiness.
Sarandon is the only actress that can be super sexy in one movie and very matenal in the next. It's a rare quality.

Somehow Soderbergh became a very underrated auteur - his movies (and tv) are consistently fascinating but they don't spark the discussion they should. I am really looking forward to his collaborations with Meryl. The Laundromat could be a stealth Oscar player for more than Meryl if Netflix promotes it.

Peggy Sue: Sarandon certainly had this quality back in the 1990s. I’m less sure she can do it now (partly because she hasn’t tried).
But I would not say she is the only one. Angela Bassett and Diane Lane come to mind as actresses who have done this, and probably could again.
On the Little Women post, I have to agree with your Sarandon vs. Dern comment. I love Laura Dern, and she's been in iconic series like Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Big Little Lies, and the historic episode of Ellen. But while Laura Dern has always been an incredibly talented actress, Susan Sarandon was and is a star (along with being an incredibly talented actress herself). In terms of talent, I would call it a tie and walk away, but in terms of fame, which is what the article claimed to compare, Sarandon was and is far more famous than Dern is. I feel like Dern has always valued the art over the fame, but that doesn't change the equation.
Sue was a big star but not anymore. Her politics and bad B.O. sunk the ship for her.
Faye is really getting messy in her later years.
@markgordonuk From what I hear Faye has been quite problematic (which includes regularly abusing clerks and waiters, etc) for many years now.
Faye Dunaway’s been a piece of work since the beginning, you guys. When BETTE DAVIS gets on national television and (without missing a beat) says you’re the most impossible person she’s ever worked with, you’re a gold-medal tyrant.

Little Women is on Netflix and I'll definitely flip it on before bed if nothing else is on. It's a good comfort movie...especially in the fall/winter months.
@MJ: Yeah, I've heard that too. It sounds like Dunaway clearly has some real heavy psychiatric issues, probably Borderline or Narcissistic stuff. I certainly would never want to run into her.
So "The Inheritance" is the frontrunner for Best Play Tony next year then?

Amen to what MJ said about Faye! I have a love/hate relationship with her. She gave a handful of unforgettable performances but quite a list of really bad ones (and I'm not talking about Mommie Dearest here).
I love both Dern and Sarandon and I'm not sure I understand the debate here, but I agree with Drea, Sarandon definitely had (and still has) an iconic status in Europe that Dern never achieved. Do we really care?
HBO Max has bought Let Them All Talk with Streep, Gemma Can, Candace Bergen and Dianne Weist. Lucas Hedges will play Streep’s nephew. A comedy about an literary author (Streep) finding herself. Film will begin in NYC, then the Queen Mary 2 and then England! Spring 2020
Jamie - Holy cow, that is a great cast. I can't wait.
So now I have to subscribe to HBO Max even if I have HBO? I hope this gets a theatrical release.
