Cate Blanchett is Mrs. America

by Murtada Elfadl

Intensity is coming to Hulu. Cate Blanchett level intensity. Uzo Aduba, Sarah Paulson, Rose Byrne intensity. The cast assembled for Mrs America, the F/X Hulu series that recounts right wing activist Phyllis Schlafly’s fight against the feminist movement of the 1970s is chock full of all your favoriter character actresses. Elizabeth Banks, Margo Martindale, Tracey Ullman and Melanie Lynskey are also in the cast. There are some men too, namely John Slattery, James Mardsen and Insecure’s Jay Ellis. The official synopsis reads...

“Mrs. America recounts the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and the unexpected backlash led by Phyllis Schlafly, aka “the sweetheart of the silent majority. Through the eyes of the women of the era, the FX series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the ’70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted the political landscape.”

Blanchett is Shlafly, Aduba is Shirley Chisholm and Byrne is Gloria Steinem. The series was created and written by Mad Men’s Dahvi Waller, with episodes directed by Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, as well as Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom). We are late to showing you the trailer which was released 2 weeks ago, check it out:

Mrs. America premieres April 15 exclusively for FX on Hulu and I’ll be recapping the show weekly on my Blanchett podcast, Sundays With Cate. Are you looking forward to the series?

This is really great. I think this is the first time Cate has done something on TV, other than a cameo or voice role, since the 90s before she was famous!

I'm really curious to see what Uzo does when she's not playing Crazy Eyes. It's very easy to see her as a double emmy nominee this year if she nails this role.

Scratch that, Uzo could be up for 3 Emmys. She's in season 4 of Fargo!

The female ensemble looks amazing. Does Byrne will play the same role that Julianne Moore?

I have to actualize myself because i don´t even know where i can watch Hulu here in México.

Bow down to the Queen!

Rose Byrne is in a TERRIBLE wig. I'm already here for it. Blanchett is also in a bad wig, but it's not the 1-800-HOT-MESS that Byrne's is.

I CAN’T WAIT.

I’ve been watching that trailer on repeat.

January 22, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterThankful4u

YES!!! Cate, Margo, Rose, Tracey - i'm SO EXCITED!!!

If Cate Blanchett makes me feel sympathy for Phyllis MF Schlafly I will be so mad.

What likes me more about this trailer is the synchronization of the typewriter with the music what makes me ask myself: Do they planed the trailer during the filmation?

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterCésar Gaytán

Oof. This looks bad. Cate is very miscast along with everyone else.

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJono

And the ERA just passed!

That’s Beloved Character Actress Margo Martindale to you! Chris you youngin, when you live long enough you will look back on some hairstyles of their day that seem very ‘bad wig’ to contemporary eyes.

We're in the era of movies about rightwing crazies.
I've mixed emotions about this, but it sure must be fun for actresses of Blanchett's caliber to take on such roles.

This gives me pause, I lived through this time period and believe me it was almost as bad as watching Trump. Schlafly was terrible, if you believed in the ERA, were gay, etc.
Great cast, terrible times. I hope the cast who are playing Gloria Steinem, Shirley Chisholm capture how inspiring those pathfinders were.
Not an easy watch. Reminds me of watching HRC lose 2016,
