Which Limited Series Will Dominate Year-End Awards?

By Abe Friedtanzer

There are more limited series than ever before on the air, though that classification is in itself complicated because of all the anthology series that introduce new characters and storylines each season. As we approach year-end awards that will, unlikee the Emmys, pull from both halves of 2020, which of the buzzy shows we talked about around Emmy time will still be in the running? What other offerings from the last few months will zoom ahead of them?

It’s worth remembering that the overall Emmy nominations leader this past season was a limited series, albeit not one that was considered as such at the end of 2019. Before its staggering 26-nomination haul at the Emmys, Watchmen competed as a drama series, landing four bids and two wins from the Critics Choice Association, a stunt ensemble nod from SAG, and absolutely nothing at the Golden Globes...

Lynn Gives Thanks, 2020

Team Experience is giving thanks. Here's Lynn Lee...

Between the scourge of COVID-19 and the utterly dysfunctional American response, 2020 is looking more and more like a lost year for public health, good governance, and the arts and entertainment industry in this country.  Still, as tantalizing hopes of a return to normalcy glimmer on the horizon (three potential vaccines! A responsible, expertise-driven presidential administration!), Thanksgiving provides a much-needed reminder to appreciate the things that helped get us through the past several months.  Here are some of the movie and TV-related moments and discoveries that brought me joy this year:

• Parasite making history as the first Korean movie to win the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Foreign Film.

• The huge, unblinking gimlet eyes of Anya Taylor-Joy (which bring to mind a cross between Emma Stone and Alita): sometimes challenging, sometimes disquieting, always riveting.

Emmy Review: Limited Series

by Juan Carlos

"And the Emmy goes to Watchmen."

Truth be told, it is hard to see a scenario where any other nominee overtakes HBO's series, which is the most nominated this year. The second-most nominated limited series Hollywood (with 11 nominations) was not even nominated in this, the top category. All of the other shows have a crucial nomination missing. Watchmen’s nomination haul demonstrates overwhelming support. Interesting to note that all of the nominees in this category are female-driven stories. Here is one last take on the contenders for limited series…..

Emmy Review: Supporting Actress, Limited Series / Movie

By Juan Carlos Ojano

Leading up to the nominations, much of the discussion surrounding this category is about how many and who among the Mrs. America stars would get in. It says a lot when Emmy favorite Sarah Paulson and previous nominees Elizabeth Banks and Rose Byrne could not even score a nomination, despite prominent roles in the show. Outside of that limited series Patti LuPone, Rosie O’Donnell, Cherry Jones, and Winona Ryder were just some of the names floated leading up to the nominations announcement that didn't . Without any further ado, let’s review the performances that were nominated...

Emmy Review: Period Costumes

by Cláudio Alves

In the past three seasons, The Crown and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have won the Best Period Costumes Emmy. This year, they are again competing for the prize. If history repeats itself, Netflix's royalty porn will triumph over Maisel's midcentury stylings, but we never know. After all, two new contenders are joining the race in the form of two Emmy-loved limited series Hollywood and Mrs. America. Pose  is also there, but the FX show seems to bound to go the Mad Men route, always a worthy nominee, never a winner…
