The Film Bitch Awards Begin!

For those of you who haven't been around these parts forever, the title of our annual prizes is a bit tongue-in-cheek. We rarely feel bitchy about movies but instead live to praise them. The name comes from a roommate in college who, after hearing Nathaniel freak out when seeing a credit on the television and launch into feverish praise for an actor he'd never heard of said "you are such a film bitch"... the name stuck. This is our 20th year (gulp). Just to get us started each page is in tba form but we're ready to go with 3 appetizers (LINKS FIXED) for the 40 (!) categories...

Best Animated Feature
These are not political choices to stick it to sequel happy Hollywood, but honest opinions! (Toy Story 4 is beautifully made, sure, but never can shake the feeling of being wholly unneccessary so it's hard to label it a "best". At least for this viewer. In a way I respect the less qualitatively successful Frozen II because at least it was an artistic risk in what it was after in mood and story.)

Best Makeup and Hair
Two of the Oscar nominees that I couldn't deny and one that didn't even make the finalist list (Megyn and Maleficent and MidSommar oh my), but we've never seen eye-to-eye with that particular Oscar branch.

Best Movie Poster
You knew that the instantly iconic creepy/peeking Lupita poster would be here... but we've also got a gloppy palette, mysterious reflections, redacted type, and a director who casts quite a shadow.

Nathaniel, who was the actor you so feverishly praised?

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterLuke

The poster for Transit was sooooo good. Good to see it here.

Congratulations on 20 years, Nat! I think I've been around for 15 of them.

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJF

I learned today that sometimes a title doesn't need an origin story.

My favourite awards of the year after the Golden Globes! I’m so excited they’ve begun!!

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterAndy

Nathaniel, does that Report poster mean Annette made the BSA list!

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterbrookesboy

"I Lost My Body" is SO good.

Also, I assume you see the two figures kissing in the negative space of the "Portrait" poster? Just asking because you didn't mention it, but it makes an already incredible poster truly ingenious.

Annette is winning a new category this year... Best Pursed Lips for The Report.

January 23, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterOwen

Owen--I'll take it LOL!

Congrats on 20 years your page i have followed religiously since i stumbled across it back in 2000 looking for oscar predictions. I enjoy you and your teams insight every year and it is really the only one i follow when it comes to oscar predictions...please keep up the great work...and here's to another 20 years 🥂

Can't wait to see them all.

PROMARE was my favourite animated of the year. It's truly BONKERS. I'm less keen on I LOST MY BODY, but I hope to see it appear in music at least which I think is its strongest asset. I also don't agree that TOY STORY 4 is inessential, but wondering if you'll put Peep in hero of the year as she deserves despite the agnosticism.

What prompted people to put an “and” credit to Jon Hamm, but not The Bening?

January 24, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterFadhil

Ha! You know I'm just busting your balls xox
