Elisabeth Moss reads "The Lottery"

What a morbidly thoughtful surprise! NEON would you like to consider Elisabeth Moss as Shirley this season for awards. So here's Elisabeth Moss reading "The Lottery," the famous short story that catapulted noted horror novelist Shirley Jackson to fame. The video is 22 minutes long but if you don't like being read to you can always read to yourself direct from The New Yorker. 

If you haven't yet watched Shirley, streaming on Hulu, you should. It's a good creepy but non-scary option for the season with excellent performances from Moss and screen husband Michael Stuhlbarg and interesting production design too.

I thought SHIRLEY was a very good movie with a very good performance by Moss, but I feel like middle of the pack from her (our finest film actress right now). Nevertheless, she is surely much better than whatever weak dross we're going to get pushed for the Best Actress field, for the second year in a row.

Thanks for the reminder and push! Finally watched Shirley yesterday (just one day after also catching up on The Invisible Man). Loved Shirley so much. I love they Josephine Decker turns interpersonal drama into horror. Great stuff.

Shirley Jackson is one of my favorite authors, and “The Lottery” is my favorite book by her. The short story has such a strong and chilling message about the dangers of blindly following tradition. It's quite literally a masterfully crafted work that never fails to get me thinking.
