MNPP Jamie Bell is going to make a Fred & Ginger biopic with Margaret Qualley...
TFE we're elated for Bell because if you recall our interview two years back he said playing Astaire was his dream role
Variety Steven Soderbergh working on a Sex Lies and Videotape sequel with Andie MacDowell and Laura San Giacoma both returning. Yes, ma'am. Sold

More after the jump including live concerts to stream tonight, Wong Kar Wai, pandemic grief, Disney proejcts, and more Warner Bros/HBO Max fallout...

Observer a complete list of new Disney projects announced at their big investors event. We didn't do an article on it because it's so depressing. It's 95% franchises. Their two divisions dedicated to originals, Fox and Searchlight, are noticeably absent
Guardian "Magic Mike Live" had been a smash touring hit, pre-COVID of course, surely lining Channing Tatum's pockets considerably. What's next for it?
NPR FKA Twigs has sued Shia Labeouf accusing him of domestic abuse
Variety Denis Villeneuve is *pissed* at Warner Bros about dumping Dune on HBOMax. He pens a scathing but kind of beautiful op-ed about the importance of cinemas (while also praising streaming's place in the new ecosystem in a smart aside). Between this and Chris Nolan's anger, Warner Bros looks to be absolutely decimating their reputation as a studio for film artists. Hopefully lots of other studios steal their stable of talent!
Time names President-Elect and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris the "Person of the Year"
YouTube Time also names BTS "Entertainers of the Year" with a new performance of "Dynamite"
Criterion offering up a box set of remastered Wong Kar Wai films
CBC Five stages of pandemic grief through the pop music of 2020. Fun memoir article from Peter Knegt

LIVE $ EVENTS TODAY
Taylor Mac, the incredible performance artist, has a show called "Holiday Sauce Pandemic" with three shows today $10
• Kelli O'Hara Broadway's incredible voice in concert tonight (sans audience of course) at 8 PM EST $20

Congratulations to Jamie Bell! I'm always happy when a passion project gets made.

Why am I not surprised about Shia LaBeouf? I heard he was abusive towards Mia Goth in the past. As if being a pretentious actor who takes himself WAY too seriously isn't bad enough.

Bell is perfect for Astaire but i've had enough of Qualley, she's a limited actress and is where she is due to nepotism it seems with 0 charisma and not at all like Ginger.

Thrilled that Bell is finally getting to play his dream role. Can hardly wait to see him knock it out of the park.

"Person of the Year" are the doctors and nurses, not the politicians.

I'm sorry but I am already campaigning for Jamie Bell for all the awards. Quality and competition be damned.

@Tune2-Agreed. They're the ones putting their asses on the line to help us.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.....Now there's a joke.

Sex, Lies and Videotape is a personal favourite though 'm not gonna lie, last movie I ever thought I'd want to see a sequel to until now...Very intriguing.

Yay for Jamie Bell!!!! Great actor. Should have been nom'd for Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool. As should have Annette Bening.

Villeneuve’s fury IS gorgeous, but also indicative of a major problem Hollywood and everyone who’s ever worked in the proverbial “Hollywood” has had at one point or another: a total blindness to reality.

Whatever cinema experience he’s talking about, I can assure you he will not find it opening night in Hialeah, FL among the middle and high schoolers showing up for the latest franchise beast.

It’s evident to me the theaters Villeneuve is going to are the ones in Cannes, Venice, New York, Toronto, where people who love cinema like oxygen frequent the darkened halls.

I love the movies. They shaped me as much as I shaped myself. But I can’t just pretend the world he talks about in that letter is a reality for everyone.

Wake up a little, Villeneuve.

That list of Disney projects is depressing. There is not a single thing listed that I would want to see. Disney+ really doesn't have something for everyone that Netflix is at least trying to do.

I'm surprised Time didn't go with Dr. Fauci, but love their choice(s) all the same. :)

So happy about the Wong Kar Wai release - I have been struggling to view most of these and even Happy together and Chungking Express - I could only get in Thai and Korean editions which may or may not have been bootleg.

I'm totally there for Jamie Bell and Margaret Qualley as Fred and Ginger. Hopefully they'll stress how difficult it is to dance backwards in high heels.

Also, maybe poor fledgling Paramount can offer sweet deals for film artists working on a big canvas who are fed up with Warner Bros. (And historically, Warners is also known for suppressing the director's cut of THE DEVILS and censoring the theatrical release of EYES WIDE SHUT (and, arguably, the X version of CLOCKWORK ORANGE), so they haven't been THAT good ever.) It would be nice to see the company that released classics like THE CONFORMIST, THE GODFATHER, THE ELEPHANT MAN and ROSEMARY'S BABY have their logo on some great films again. They have been trying... (cf "mother!")

Jamie Bell as Fred Astaire? Thank you, movie gods!! He was so good in Rocket Man. Probably close to an Oscar nomination.
