R.I.P. McNally. I also read a few days ago that Sophia Myles' father died of the coronavirus. That sucks.

Terrible news about McNally, I didn't love all of his work but he was quite a talent.

Any news on how Nathaniel is doing? He was feeling under the weather on the podcast, hope his on the road to recovery!

joel6 - Nathaniel is notorious for getting sick often. I wouldn't be surprised going on the frequency of colds and flus, etc over the years reading if he may be immunocompromised for some reason. So sounding sick is par for the course, but with your history Nathaniel we are extra worried about you in this dangerous time. Be safe and well!!!

joel6 & a perkins -- i am prone to colds and flus yes, I am feeling a bit better now. As far as I know i am not immunocompromised ;) so if this was covid19 I am self-recovering. If it was just a normal flu (which i've been getting less of since now i am a firm believer in flu shots) than i am also self-recovering.

Disappointing but not unexpected lack of post-Annie Hall romcoms on that Edgar Wright list.

Even though US cinemas are not reporting box office totals now, can we still have a weekly "what did you watch this weekend?" thread? It is fun to read about what people are watching.

Nathaniel, I'm glad you are feeling better.

So sad to hear of Terrence McNally's passing. I had the good fortune to see a production of Love! Valour! Compassion! at Berkeley (CA) Repertory, as well as a production of The Lisbon Traviata. Love! Valour! etc I also read about a million times; it spoke so well about contemporary gay men and dealing with AIDS and life. McNally also wrote a play called Andre's Mother, which was given a TV production ahead of its time in dealing with the fallout of an AIDS death, with Richard Thomas and Sada Thompson both excellent in the lead roles. RIP Terrence!!!

McNally was not only a great playwright but a good musical book writer- I really would love to see "Kiss of the Spider Woman "as film- this could be a good vehicle for Jennifer Lopez. And instead of that pointless remake of " Wes Side Story" I wish Spielberg had brought "Ragtime the Musical" to the screen.

RIP, Terrance McNally.

@Jaragon. Kiss of the Spider Woman was made into a film already (not saying it couldn't be done again). William Hurt won a Best Actor Oscar as Molina and his co-star was the late Raul Julia. Sonia Braga (Brazilian star) played the Spider Woman.

March 25, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterrrrich7

I think Jaragon is talking about a movie version of the stage musical of Kiss Of The Spider Woman, and yes, I would think that J.Lo would be number one on the casting suggestion list for it.

If they made it cheap enough (and it should be), I don't see why they couldn't/shouldn't do it.

@Dave in Hollywood. Thanks for clarifying for me. And I agree!

March 25, 2020 | Unregistered Commenterrrrich7

Jaragon, Spielberg has long wanted to make a musical (that Temple of Doom opening!), but I don't think he'd be willing to bet his box office cred on a musical property that isn't 100% universally known and beloved with a brand that would probably be a hit with or without him.
