Oldies but Linkies

Indiewire Waiting for Chris Nolan's Tenet -  Hollywood hopes summer can be saved
Rick's Real Reel remembering Doris Day and Cary Grant in That Touch of Mink
Slate fun short piece on the absurd thrill (in a vacuum) of the Ben Affleck / Ana de Armas romance as witness by paparazzi

Today's roundup continues after the jump and is a mix of new and old (i.e. past couple of weeks) stuff since we haven't hit you with a link in a bit: Robert Pattinson profiled, a rift at the César awards, Dear Evan Hansen couplings, Drama League nominations, Peabody Awards, RIPs and more...

• GQ A Robert Pattinson in isolation. A profile on the (formerly) reluctant star
AV Club remembers a forgotten Denzel picture, Mississippi Masala
• The Guardian Cannes was meant to kick off TODAY *sniffle*. Xan Brooks reveals why he misses it
• Towleroad Russell Tovey dances in new music video
Cartoon Brew Animation giant Genndy Tartakovsky is still trying to get that Popeye feature made that ceased production in 2015
• Moviemaker so random but arguably cool: an interactive 3D map of Jaws shooting locations
Peabody Awards they've announced their juried nominations for TV, radio, online storytelling and youth programming and news programs for the 2019 year. Both of last year's documentary winners (American Factory and Learning to Skateboard) are nominated

New York Times what do famous people's bookshelves reveal about them?
Movie City News David Poland does the math of recent Hollywood battles about VOD and theatrical - The former is actually the declining market but Hollywood keeps betting on it
Cartoon Brew interesting rifts at the César Awards as French filmmakers disagree on how to most effectively honor the country's booming animation industry
New Yorker reacts to the documentary Making Montgomery Clift and talks the 'ethics of biography'

Ryan Murphy's Hollywood is good for something after all! Inspiring interesting articles on actual history
Slate on Peg Entwistle's only film appearance and the tawdry killer lesbian book that inspired it
• World of Wonder talks about the real story behind Rock Hudson and his "starmaker" agent Henry Willson that Hollywood botches

Broadway / Stage
Alma Noah Galvin and Ben Platt are officially a couple. That makes the second gay couple who both starred in Dear Evan Hansen
• YouTube Broadway sensation Katrina Lenk (The Band's Visit / Company) does a modern spin on "Something Good" from The Sound of Music
Theater Mania Disney+ will begin streaming the taped version of Broadway's biggest smash Hamilton on July 3rd
Broadway World The Broadway COVID shutdown has extended until at least September 6th
Vulture how that Sondheim 90th concert came together and how Raúl responded to the tech difficulties
Broadway World the Drama League nominations for the 2019/2020 season. Moulin Rouge, The Inheritance, Six, A Strange Loop, and Jagged Little Pill among them. It was a good year for some of TFE's favourite (male) actors this time around as Danny Burstein, Raúl Esparza, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Jonathan Groff all picked up nominations

RIP
NPR Famed soul singer Betty Wright has died at just 66. Here's a look back at her full career.
THR Jerry Stiller, comic actor and father to Ben, dies at 92
Boy Culture Roy Horn of Seigfried & Roy fame has died of COVID 19 complications

Exit Video
Got a spare... um... three hours? A bunch of pundits from various indie Oscar-watching sites (including myself) got together for an impromptu chaotic boozy night of trivia and future-of-Oscar discussion. Here's the recording...

How dare you pass over the death of the greatest Rock 'n' Roller of all time. The Mighty Queen And King of Rock 'n' Roll - Little Richard. The gayest rock star of all time who got Long Tall Sally, a song about the drag queens of Atlanta on the charts way back in the 50s! Check out his appearance at the 1988 Grammys announcing Best New Artist. A Wop Bop a Lula a Wop Bam Boom - or words to that effect.

May be just a rumor but Streep may soon be added to Damien Chazelle's upcoming film, Babylon, set in 1920s Hollywood in the role of Elinor Glyn.

@ken s-I know. He's from my home state. Yes, Georgia is a fucking joke nowadays but he made it important. And plus, if it wasn't for Little Richard. There wouldn't be David Bowie and so many others. Bowie's original ambition when he was a kid was to be in Little Richard's band as a sax player.

I remember during an appearance on a show on VH1 where artists and celebs made a list of greats and such. Little Richard was one of the people in the panel and says "now this artist right here is.... MY BOY!" The fact that referred to Bowie as his boy just makes me love Little Richard even more. He will be missed.

I still can't get over the fact that so many of you forgot that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was the other foreign language film (aside from Roma) that has the most nominations. When even the Oscar experts/pundits forget that achievement of an Asian movie, we shouldn't at all be surprised why, regardless of Parasite's historic win, Asian cinema has not had the industry respect that it deserves.

Ron -- i knew that answer immediately but alas, it wasn't my turn to answer the question. That part of the game made me crazy. It was agony to know answers and just not be able to answer. And then of course when it does land on you you dont always know.

I can understand how frustrating that is haha. Maybe next time it should be a buzzer-type (as someone suggested) or you'd just write your answer on a board and everyone who gets it right gets a point. The other question that had me screaming the answer at the screen was Oliver! (as the Best Picture winner with an exclamation point). Finally you (is that right?) got it after so many got it wrong/passed on it!

Cate Blanchett's interview on WTF with Marc Maron is a delight. I know some of you will be interested in this. FYI, it sounds like her Lucy project is on hold at the moment.
