Can't The Matrix just be The Matrix.

I don’t care about Ellen or the mob mentality of cancel culture. Yes, some things are unforgivable-Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby,etc-and should be over but I’m super creeped out by the way the internet gleefully attacks and takes down people because of something they said seven years ago or a stupid joke they made on instagram stories. I don’t know a single person who is perfect or haven’t at one point said something dumb or misinformed. Celebrities are held to a different standard and I get that, they’re influential and have a huge platform, but can we have some leeway for human error? The internet is such a toxic place. I haven’t followed this Ellen story because I’m exhausted, not interested and have actually serious real life issues to be worried about. Yeah she’s probably a tough person. Hey you can be tough and also be charitable at the same time. Imagine that — people are complicated and three demential. She probably has no idea what goes on at her show. At this point she probably comes in, has a meeting about what the show is about, films the show and goes home and has no idea about the day to day work place environment of the show. There should be an investigation and I hope everyone is ok but I don’t get why this is a news story. I work for minimum wage and my work place is toxic, homophobic, and everyone just looks the way. I’m more concerned about that and not catching COVID.

Ashley -- sorry to hear that about you job. I am also finding the online world a bit toxic of late. So I've pared down how much time i spend on twitter and the facebook.

I respect Charlize’s directness and clarity in being able to convey characters of true inner sweetness; characters that are callous with greed and cruelty; and characters full of irresistible energy and action.

Her range is a quality that will be increasingly appreciated.

Judas and the Black Messiah looks absolutely stunning. Kaluuya and Stanfield are two of the most talented and dynamic actors working today, and their pairing and performances look fantastic.

Top 10 Charlize Theron Films:

1. Mad Max: Fury Road
2. Young Adult
3. Monster
4. Tully
5. Atomic Blonde
6. North Country
7. The Italian Job
8. Long Shot
9. The Devil's Advocate
10. 2 Days in the Valley

She's one of the best. Plus, she's fucking hilarious.

Fuck cancel culture. Months ago, people want to cancel Kanye and now weeks later, they want to vote for Kanye regardless of how mentally ill he is. These SJWs are fucking fickle and need to fucking go.

Who the fuck wants to vote for Kanye? You’re drunk, thevoid99

a) Favourite Theron Movie: Mad Max
b) Favourite Theron performance: Tully

c) I don't understand what cancel culture is. The phrase itself has lost most of any meaning to me. Senators are complaining about being cancelled when people say "vote for the opposition." When Ashley says she hasn't been following the Ellen controversy, I'm genuinely torn. I have to respect the fact that we're living in fractious, upsetting times. If someone choses not to participate in something, I can't blame them for it. But reading how Ashley than frames the debate (which she's elected not to understand) itself (oh, she's a tough person? No, unfortunately, that's not what people are complaining about) is also exhausting. The sheer idea of holding someone to a standard, to accountability... it's considered to be too much and we shouldn't do it. Ashley, with respect, you not understanding why this is a news story is a choice you made and that's reasonable. The rest is not, in my mind.

d) No one wants to vote for Kanye. Those that believe in social justice (man, when did that become an insult) certainly don't.

e) To an asshole, all virtue looks like virtue signalling.

f) The trailer for the Fred Hampton/Black Panther story is sensational. Hook it to my veins.

Nat, what are your favourite Charlize performances?

I am so sick of Hollywood HR horror stories. I've endured toxic work environments but nothing even approaching the level of unprofessionalism Hollywood openly accommodates. Christian Bale behavior would get you fired from every organization I've ever worked for—not exactly a high bar. Hollywood sets no bar at all (and demands attention!) so the entire nation gets sucked into these psychodramas ten times a year.

The fact that we are all strapped to this stupid emotional rollercoaster while Hollywood sorts through its dirty laundry is...mind-numbing. It's like being forced to attend marriage counseling with someone you've never met.

Fave Therons: Monster & Tully are the two performances (and films) of hers that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Atomic Blonde is right up there as well.

August 7, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterMJ

Is Kaluuya really one of the most dynamic actors working today? Because to me he either looks borderline comatose or insanely angry.

Stanfield’s fantastic, though!! :)

Favorite Theron: “Young Adult” for sure. I’d also shout out he decidedly weird performance in “Arrested Development.” It was so fun!

I feel like the toxicity of Ellen's show has been an open secret for years. Seriously, rumors about how it's such an unpleasant place to work, and that she's not the best boss (to put it mildly), have been circulating for at least a decade.

No one wants to vote for Kanye. Especially "SJW"s (god, I hate that term). He seriously needs help. He's a GOP plant.

I adore Charlize Theron, and I'm glad her talent and versatility as an actress is finally being appreciated. I mean, I know she won an Oscar but I've always felt like she's been a bit underrated compared to her contemporaries. Young Adult and Mad Max: Fury Road are two of the best films of the last decade, in my opinion, and I think she should've won her second Oscar for the former.I also love her in Tully, Monster, Prometheus, and The Italian Job (such a fun movie - used to love it back in the day).
