Greatest Albums, Aldis Hodge casting, the would-be Baroness Von Trapp, Samuel L Jackson up for more Nick Fury, and mSarah Jessica Parker's hustling after the jump...

Rolling Stone updates its "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. The only thing we care about is Madonna and she gets three entries but they booted out "Music" this go round. Boo! Also it's very silly to include 2019 albums in an all time list made in 2020.

That Rolling Stone list is a hot diggity mess, but I’ll just leave it at: how on Zeus’s green Earth is Swift’s Red in the Top 100 but The Immaculate Collection, isn’t it?

Those 16 songs (17, if you count “Rescue Me”, as I do) ARE part of the very tapestry of pop. AND they came first.

Ugh. This is why I don’t look at lists anymore. My mistake.

Kim C has spoken publicly saying she is done with the role and she is fine with it being recast. If she is ok with it then it's understandable that the series would proceed without her.

I've actually suggested Sharon Stone as the only person I could actually see replacing Kim Cattrall to friends of mine. Personally, I'm not sure they should do one without her, but I'd rather the role be recast than them killing off the character or something like that.

The only good thing about Rolling Stone magazine is this, if I ever ran out of toilet paper. I know what I can use to wipe my ass with. That magazine should've died 40 years ago. I ain't wasting my time reading that list. And if anyone is interested, here's my top 10 favorite albums of all-time:

1. The Stone Roses-S/T
2. Radiohead-OK Computer
3. Nine Inch Nails-The Downward Spiral
4. Pink Floyd-The Wall
5. My Bloody Valentine-Loveless
6. The Beatles-Revolver
7. R.E.M.-Automatic for the People
8. David Bowie-Hunky Dory
9. Bob Dylan & the Band-the Basement Tapes
10. Nirvana-In Utero

Kim Cattrall is the reason why I watched that show and why Samantha was my favorite character. I don't blame her for not wanting to return after the horror that was the 2nd film. We all know whoever they choose to play Samanatha is going to suck and the movie will bomb.

Tom G - I think Kim C has every right to not want to be in the show again but I don't understand why she keeps bashing Sarah Jessica for being cruel, etc. Even after the latter reached out to her following her brother's death, she called her a hypocrite. Well, I guess we won't really know what has transpired between these two.

The terrible idea is to do a third film after the terrible sequel.

If the screenplay is really really good and Michael Patrick King comes up with fresh ideas, i actually think Stone would by the best option.

The very best option would be to welcome a fresh, new character in the franchise and leave Samantha alone in California.
Then casting an actress of color would be more logical.

Do the sex and the city producers not realize what a train wreck the second film was? It’s like Kim Cattrall is the only one with any sense to realize that the storytelling potential amis over for that series.

So... Sophia Loren Oscar campaign has started... I like it!

Why don't they kill off Samantha? Recasting is not gonna work.

September 26, 2020 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

Sharon Stone could do that role in her sleep. It wouldn’t be a challenge for her at all

The world that needs a third SATC movie is a sick world.

I was a fan of the show. Loved Nixon and Cattral. Two towering actresses in great roles. But, the movies... Oh lord... 🤮🤢

What about financing four great and small budget movies to this four ladies get great work and the audiences great movies???

September 26, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJohan

Does anybody actually care about anything "Rolling Stone " magazine says anymore? Yeah I can see Sharon Stone as a Samantha type- it would have to be a similar character not the same one-the other option is to have a gay Samantha... Peter Pan again ?! These days in which everyone thinks what does Captain Hook is really after from the eternal twink?

September 26, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterJaragon

First scene, SEX AND THE CITY 3. Long shot, Samantha Jones' funeral... Why not. I always hate recast roles, unless it's utterly unavoidable, like, say James Bond.

Really think the world would be just fine without a third SATC movie; I agree with David, Sharon Stone could do that role in her sleep but I'd rather see Ms. Stone getting a really juicy role and that overdue Oscar win she deserves (still bugs me she lost to Sarandon and wasn't even nominated for Basic Instinct, The Mighty and Bobby), BTW, Ratched is not great (but not bad either) but is full of incredible performances, Paulson, Nixon, Davis and Stone are so magnetic Say whatever you want about Ryan Murphy but the man knows his way around casting agents.

I agree on the PEN15 storyline. I called him being gay last season, and was happy that they began dropping more crumbs this season. His story was definitely my middle school experience and a large part of what shaped my coming of age story and I've never seen it explored on screen before like this, so BRAVO to one of my favorite shows of all-time.

If you aren't watching PEN15, you're definitely missing out. Genuinely relatable with the purest intentions, it's hilariously silly and at times heart-wrenching. They never fail to somehow make me cry at the end of the season with Anna's storyline.

As for SatC - no one in their right mind wants another movie, especially without one of the main cast members. I don't blame Kim Catrall for refusing, but she definitely seems painfully ungrateful and bitter in some of her interviews from the past however many years. Yikes. Regardless of what went down, which we obviously do not and will never know, she is holding onto nasty energy and seems incredibly unhappy.

The second SATC movie was an endless bore - I agree I love to see Sharon Stone back on the big screen in a good role. Kim Catrall does not need the money I guess

The talk of other actresses for Samantha reminded me of that barely seen TV show with young Carrie and Samantha. A bit unfortunate as I think if it were be made nowadays as a Netflix or Amazon show it would be more successful. I thought the casting was great and wish we would have gotten at least another season and introduce the rest of the girls.

Nathaniel, if you liked the Baroness piece from McSweeney's, you have to read An Update on the Problem of Maria from the same magazine:

Manny -- as much as i worship Madonna, i dont understand Greatest Hits albums being allowed on lists like these. They are not proper albums. They are just collections of popular songs from previous albums! but it's a real shame that Madonna only has two real albums on the list. That's ridiculous. She has so much great albums but RAY OF LIGHT should have been much much much higher than it is.

If another Sex and the City is needed (and I honestly as cast would not want to end the series with the terrible second film even though I probably would not watch another one no matter what) why they can’t just kill of Samatha’s character and have the film be about dealing with loss? And how people aren’t really gone when they are dead? And have Mamma Mia 2 type flashbacks to how they first met (but not that long, that film was hampered for being too predictable). The actors and original fans are in the age where their friends might be starting to pass away anyway and feel it relatable and the film would need some drama after just empty shopping of the last film.
