Cloris Leachman, "The Actress"

We're still thinking about Cloris Leachman (RIP) and we are thrilled to have been pointed at one of her Emmy wins last night (thanks StinkyLulu!) that we hadn't seen. Her fifth (of eight) Emmy wins came in the now defunct category of "Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program" The occassion was the Screen Actors Guild 50th Anniversary Celebration in 1984 and Cloris performs a mini-musical/play called "The Actress". It is very much worth your 10 minutes...
It just gets better and better as it goes along; what a journey!

Everyone is discovering that Grandma Cloris Leachman was young and sexy one day. But even when she was younger and radiant, they gave her roles of older, ugly and unsympathetic women - especially in movies. And she played them bravely. RIP CLORIS LEACHMAN.
She had a very long and successful career in both film and specially television - she was in everything from sit coms to movies of the week- watch her in the very suspenseful "Dying Room Only".
That was amazing!! I'm even sadder now that she's gone.
I thought she got sexier when she got older. She was a joy to watch.

GODDAMNIT!!!! Hank Aaron, Larry King, Cloris Leachman, Julie Strain, Tanya Roberts, and now Cicely Tyson. OH FUCK YOU 2021.
The quintessential scene stealer finally got the stage all to herself and was well-rewarded with the 6th of her 9 Emmys (I'm counting that Daytime one!). She noted in her speech that she had just lost earlier in the evening for another scene-stealing performance as the mother of Ernie Kovacs (to 14-year-old Roxana Zal!) and her future Beverly Hillbillies costar Lily Tomlin fake sobbed while fully dressed as Ernestine when Leachman won over her. Now that was an awards show moment! It also was right before her fallow period at awards shows began and she was relegated to NBC sitcoms before she found another niche in "old lady" parts that led to the Clorissance she enjoyed for the rest of her life.
