What's on your cinematic mind?

I was just randomly thinking about Splendor in the Grass. You?

These last days is Parallel Mothers. I've watched it months ago and I need to watch it again. I believe is my BP of the year

One of the strongest best actress line-ups ever.

Loren/Wood/Hepburn/Page/Laurie

Loren deserved her Oscar, but I really wish Wood had won.

If not for this, for This Property is Condemned, but she was not even nominated.

Getting ready to start making my annual Oscar-Toons. Follow along if ya'll want :) @newqcartoons

Also recently watched Passing. What a terrific film I keep thinking about. I keep imagining Ruth Negga's character's life beyond this story and what she did, how it happened, what she had to do, etc.

David Hyde Pierce reportedly said at the TCA panel for the new HBO Max Julia Child series:

“For me, I’ve always wanted to play Stanley Tucci, so this is as close as I’ll probably get.”

So now I have to rewatch JULIE & JULIA, skipping through the Julie parts of course.

Also, my gawd, Natalie Wood was beautiful.

A recent rewatch of The Elephant Man gave me back the acting glory that is Wendy Hiller – clearly, there is a mold for Unabashed Female Brit Actress that Dame Hiller probably first shaped. (Carry on, Maggie Smith.) I loved her in Pygmalion and in the best romantic comedy ever that every Hallmark movie rips off, I Know Where I'm Going by Powell & Pressburger.

Looking forward to the 1958 edition of Smackdown where she gets some proper The Film Experience discussion, for her win for her role in Separate Tables. Followed closely by the 1978, where Maggie Smith is fantastic for that "meta" win for California Suite (and competing against this actress who might have a very strong future ahead of her, Meryl Streep).

LOVE this movie and performance. "I'm not SPOILED mother! He didn't SPOIL me!" Pure cinematic gold.

Natalie Wood forever ... she may not have been the best actress ever, but she was soooooo beautiful.

With she had won the Oscar for Love With the Proper Stranger or SITG>

Kristen Stewart's absorbing and intricate performance in 'Spencer'... What a brilliant film.

I'm trying to figure out which is my favourite Best Actress nominee.

As of today, I do feel that Jessica Chastain gives the best performance of the nominated five.

Caitríona Balfe is so great in Belfast, easily on par with Negga, Dunst, all the performances considered the best of the year (Oscar nominations aside). It's a big supporting role, she's excellent in it (a few emotionally walloping scenes), the film was a huge hit with the Oscars, she's gorgeous and talented...

I'm perplexed that she wasn't a shoo-in for a nomination. (Perplexed that she's not on the Film Bitch long list, too, whatever you think of Belfast...) I thought Dench was great too and wouldn't complain if they both got in.

Deborah Kerr should have won in 1961 for The Innocents (finally)

I recently watched I Am Not A Witch, I was sure that I knew the existence of the film because it was very spoken at their moment in this site but it surprises me to realize that the film was barely mentioned in some posts.

My surprise was bigger to discover that the film was totally snubed in the film bitch awards, it could perfecty fit in a lot of categories, at least in opening and ending scenes, both powerful and memorable images.

Wood should have the 61 Oscar.

I keep hoping Julia Roberts has a major revival.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as I hope it's Sam Raimi's big comeback as I am dreaming that he at least has a shot similar to the Avengers assemble circle but with Strange, Wanda, America Chavez, Loki, Wong, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, and... Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy.

Jennifer Jones' lovely performance in The Towering Inferno. She was nominated for the Golden Globe and should have received an Academy Award nomination. It was her final film. Sigh.
