Marni Nixon deserved an honorary Oscar. The true vocalist for Maria in West Side Story, Anna in The King and I and Eliza in My Fair Lady never was properly recognized for her lasting contribution to film.
On a side note, her son Andrew Gold wrote The Golden Girls theme song, Thank You for Being a Friend.
Not to mention Marilyn Monroe’s high notes in “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes); Rita Moreno’s singing in West Side Story’s “Tonight” quintet; and Natalie Wood’s high notes in Gypsy.
