Curio: Hateful Eight Art

Alexa here, back from a long vacation and ready to jump into winter film season and, despite reviews, buy my tickets for a 70mm Roadshow showing of The Hateful Eight. Keeping my expectations low worked toward my enjoyment of The Force Awakens so I'm hoping the same (and a healthy pre-show dose of alcohol) will help me enjoy the mayhem, however rote. I have enjoyed these creative artistic homages to Tarantino's latest. Perhaps they will prove superior to the film?

Curio: Sketches of Carol

Alexa here.  Over at Little White Lies everything is coming up Carol, with the current issue of the magazine dedicated to the film. I have been having fun following the entries for their latest creative brief, a competition seeking black and white sketches of the title character. The film is ripe with visual inspiration, so of course many lovely images have been appearing on instagram and tumblr and the like. Too bad the contest is for UK residents only, because the prizes for the winner are a poster signed by Todd Haynes, a framed print of the winning artwork, a copy of Patricia Highsmith’s novel, a copy of the film’s soundtrack and a one-year subscription to the magazine.

Todd Haynes will be selecting the winner. My favorites are after the jump

Curio: Thanksgiving Ready

Alexa here, anticipating Thanksgiving. Every year I imagine hosting a dream Thanksgiving feast, with a table filled with friends, movie marathons instead of football, and Marilyn's stuffing recipe. Someday, perhaps my dreams will come true, but in the reality we will just blast Adele and hope for the best.

Here are some movie-loving serving items I've bookmarked in the meantime after the jump...

Curio: Art Awakens

Alexa here with your weekly arts and crafts. Last weekend Gallery1988 exhibited some amazing works of art celebrating the continuing saga of Star Wars. The exhibit, Art Awakens, showcases the work of over 60 artists; J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan were on hand for the opening.  Even better, the pieces are being auctioned on eBay for charity!  Original pieces and prints are available on eBay now to benefit UNICEF Kid Power, a program to provide food to kids in need worldwide. Bids on some of the original pieces are already at thousands of dollars!

Here are some favorite pieces from the show...

Curio: Hotel Keytags

Alexa here with your weekly film curiosities. Remember when hotels used real keys instead of key cards? Yes, our age is showing. My nostalgia for these days of yore made me immediately take notice these clever keychains at KeyChainsRUs. Made to resemble those Route 66-style plastic motel key tags, they reference some of our favorite film overnights.

Which set of keys after the jump would you grab for a night's adventure?
