Happy New Year! Here's to 2023

As you may have gleaned these past several months, 2022 was a very difficult year for your host here. I was out of comission a few times. Feeling hopeful about 2023, though, so to those of you who are still with us, just know that I appreciate you now more than ever. I'm still trying to climb back onto this long running horse. Considered putting this beautiful beast out to pasture but reconsidered. Would rather go out with a big win than a what-just-happened? disappointing finish. Should we make like Cher and announce a Farewell Tour... that goes on indefinitely? Anyway, the point is: onward. The year is young. Mere hours young!

Coming in January: The Oscar nominations and all the stuff that comes with that, "Split Decisions" where the team debates movies they disagree on, more Year in Review lists plus nominations for the annual Film Bitch Awards. And the return of the Smackdown.

P.S. Can you think of any movies with great New Year's Eve scenes aside from When Harry Met Sally

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Merry merry to all who celebrate anything this time of year. Two questions for you today

  • What's the movie gift you want most this season?
  • What New Years resolution are you hoping someone in Hollywood makes?

The team is mostly at family or friend gatherings today --I myself am in California meeting the boyfriends family for the first time. Sacramento to be exact so I have been referencing Lady Bird nonstop and threatening to throw myself out of moving cars for dramatic effect. We'll be back shortly with more Oscar volleys, "split decisions" when we disagree on movies, and... drumroll plz... "Year in Review" list-mania. In the meantime check out the updated Oscar charts for Picture, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Visuals

Streaming Roulette (Halloween Weekend)

Happy Halloween Weekend! There are quite a few newish-to-streaming things to screen this weekend (many of them horror themed) so herewith 10 ideas to take you through Halloween on Monday night.

If we can raise him up, we can raise up anyone in the cemetery.

WENDELL & WILD (2022) on Netflix
Went in with the highest hopes since Henry Selick is just great. Plus stop-motion animation is always such a treat in the more lifeless era of the absurdantly dominant CG 3D style. The animation here is definitely the highlight and it's perfect for Halloween...

Happy 4th if you celebrate

Happy Fourth of July

Tootsie (1982)

Apologies for the radio silence this weekend -- though we've been updated the Oscar charts -- but we took the weekend to recharge via Fire Island (not Fire Island the movie though that's come up in conversation multiple times). After "The Invasion of the Pines" today, the annual tradition wherein drag queens ferry it from Cherry Grove to the Pines, we're headed back to our less glittery, less eye-candy filled lives *sniffle*. So this post is illustrated with the three photos from the TFE archives that best sum up this weekend...
