Yes No Maybe So: "Nightmare Alley"

by Nathaniel R

one of many memorable images in the trailerGuillermo Del Toro has never been what one might call an Oscar-bait director, as his preferred genre is the fantastical monster movie. And yet with his inspired auteur's eye and significant command of craft he bucked the odds to helm two movies Oscar just adored, the creepy mythological creature filled fantasy Pan's Labyrinth and the sea monster in love Best Picture winner The Shape of Water. So now he's most definitely an Oscar player. This time up he's doing a remake of the great 1947 noir Nightmare Alley which featured Tyrone Power's all time best performance and two fascinating female supporting roles. Will his latest movie be another Oscar player or another Crimson Tide (which people were very excited about in theory until it became reality). But, more importantly, will it be great? Rapid Fire Yes No Maybe So: "The Matrix Resurrections," "C'mon C'mon," "Don't Look Up" and More

Nathaniel is heading back from Venice. While he got to watch so many great upcoming films, all we’re left with are trailers. Christopher James is taking over and giving all the recent trailers the Yes No Maybe So treatment.

Neo and Trinity are back in the first trailer for "The Matrix Resurrections," opening this December.

Either which way, it’s nice to be excited to go to the movies again and it looks like there is a lot of great stuff on the horizon.

Let’s do some Yes No Maybe So after the jump…

by Nathaniel R

"Father... Son.... and House of Gucci" If the trailer is any indication, people are going to be obsessing on or quoting House of Gucci frequently in the coming months. So let's go immediately to our Yes No Maybe So™ routine, but in the more expansive second-by-second way we do occassionally when we're really excited...

Yes No Maybe So: The Last Duel

Please welcome new contributor Patrick Ball...

Jodie Comer in "The Last Duel"

One of the more anticipated fall releases, Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel finally got a trailer. A medieval swords n’ beards tale, it boasts the first joint screenplay from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck since their Oscar winning effort on Good Will Hunting (1997), this time joined by Nicole Holofcener. Starring Matt and Ben, Adam Driver (having yet another big year with this and Annette and House of Gucci) and Killing Eve breakout Jodie Comer, let’s raise the drawbridge on another installment of Yes No Maybe So...

One of the most anticipated films of the year is Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s epic science fiction saga Dune.  We already had a Pink Floyd-scored teaser, a series of poster releases and a Venice Film Festival premeire date, but now we have a full trailer.  There is a lot to this trailer, so let’s play our Yes, No, Maybe So™ game ...
