One Hundred Years of Linkitude

24 Frames a glowing profile of Shailene Woodley in The Descendants who is looking more and more like a real Supporting Actress contender. Alexander Payne even compares her to a young Debra Winger.
Empire fun investigation of the parallels between Joss Whedon's The Avengers and the Whedonverse itself (Buffy and the like)

But he's been pretty much yellow
And I've been cryin' blue
But all I can see is
Red, red, red, red, red now
What am I to do

Ugh, I miss Fiona Apple so much some times. What happened to her?

Salon unveils their People-adjacent list of the year's sexiest men. No movie stars or Bradley Cooper allowed though we're very pleased to see the wonderful director Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre) on the list. I was also happy to see Marcus Samuellson, star chef, make the list. He touched our table the very first time we ate at his new restaurant Red Rooster in Harlem. It's delicious and afforable, a combo that you can't beat. Try it if you're ever in NYC.

Apple's preparing a 4th studio album to be released sometime next year.

Ugh, The Descendants is so overrated. I can't believe the reviews it's getting, I'm starting to think maybe I'm crazy. The film just hits so many false notes and I probably laughed only once. Anyway, Shailene Woodley is fine in it, but an Oscar contender? If you say so, I guess. Payne did a Q&A at the screening I went to yesterday and he made the Debra Winger comparison as well. I have to say, his two hour Q&A was much better than the film.

Dominique -- you and I are in a very lonely place, it's true. I don't get why people love the film that much either. I liked it ok but I do 100% consider it to be his weakest film.

Surprisingly, a number of my classmates didn't like the film that much either, but the critics are eating it up and I really don't see why. Many of the emotional scenes were unearned, leaving me cold and unmoved, or, even worse, were cheapened by gags that never stuck their landing. That movie was trying so damn hard to combine humor and drama and just never struck the right balance.

Okay, I'm done now :)

(Also, I saw The Artist on Friday and I'd bet just about anything it's going to win Best Picture.)

PS That Madonna/Riseborough link leads to Rooney Mara being drawn on an iPad...
