For Christmas this year, we watched The Hobbit and it was completely underwhelming, terribly long and horribly paced.
My favorite Christmas going movie experience ever was when I saw Brokeback Mountain because of Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhall and Michelle Williams. Favorite is not quite the right word here, but it was definitely the best movie I saw during a Christmas break. Wept into my hot cocoa immediately afterwards though.
If Oscar voters wanted to give me a gift, they will nominate Emmanuelle Riva in Amour. And maybe have a "breakthrough" category that Rebel Wilson could win.

For Christmas this year we watched "Les Miserables" and it was a dream!
My favorite moviegoing experience ever was when I saw "The Family Stone" because my family was going through a very similar situation that holiday season; and now it's a Christmas tradition to watch the movie.
If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'lll nominate Jean-Louis Trintignant for "Amour" because he's haunting and palpable in the movie.
1. For Christmas this year we watched nothing and it was okay because it is not a tradition where I live to watch movies during Christmas. i did just watch Game Change because I was bored, but I don't think that counts. ;)

1. For Christmas this year we watched Killer Joe and it was totally inappropriate and disturbing in the best way possible! Les Mis happens tomorrows.
2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Inglorious Basterds because the theater was empty except for my brother and me and we didn't have to leave the theater when the credits started to actually discuss the merits of the film.
3. If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Christopher Walken for Seven Psychopaths. Why nominate actors who are sleepwalking through insubstantial supporting roles when you can recognize a brilliant and challenging performance in a thought-provoking film?
For Christmas this year watched Les Miserables (at the midnight showing - knowing that would bring more of the musical lovers and make a more festive and enraptured audience). Acting and singing were great, but Hooper was obsessed with closeups (I mean Peter Dinklage could have been Valjean- you never get to really experience the stature of Jackman which is one thing that makes him great for the part).
I hope they nominate Eddie Redmayne, he was excellent and then did the best Empty Chairs ever. It surprises me he is not getting precursor love. He gave a lot of heart and emotion to a character that could have had much less an impact with a different actor.
For Christmas this year, I watched 'Django Unchained' and it was surprisingly dense and wonderful and bloody and so very, very Tarantino.
My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw 'Sideways' because I knew it was one of my favorite movies from the very time I saw it and duh, this doesn't need a second reason - it's fucking 'Sideways'.
If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Dwight Henry for 'Beasts of the Southern Wild'. Though, if they REALLY loved me, they'd get Paul Thomas Anderson to WIN Best Director - not necessarily because he deserves it (though, I think he does), but because I'm an insatiable fanboy who wants to finally see one of his favorites win Best Director for good movies, and not when they're 70+ yrs old and win for inferior material. **cough**Scorsese**cough**
For Christmas this year we watched The Silver Linings Playbook (for the second time) because Les Mis was sold out and it was even better than the first screening. I am so proud of Bradley Cooper for breaking through his good looks and charm; he's at his prime in this. I love Jennifer, in anything. She is flawless. Deniro finds a way to work his elderliness.
My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Elf because it was with my first glass of wine at Christmas and I've never laughed as hard as I did when Buddy fights Peter Dinklage.

1. For Christmas this year we watched We're No Angels with Bogart, Peter Ustinov and Aldo Ray and it was so enjoyable, a Christmas movie that's not really a Christmas movie!
2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Steel Magnolias because it was instantly recognizable as something I could return to again and again.

For Christmas this year, we watched Silver Linings Playbook and it was fine. Nothing spectacular really. I wish Jacki Weaver had a little more *anything* for her character to do. Liked Cooper's and J-Law's performances though.
My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw The Piano because it was utterly original and immersive... and it was snowing like hell and we almost didn't make it to the theater in time :) (Also good Christmas-moviegoing experiences with both Titanic and As Good as It Gets).

For Christmas I watched Lambada The Forbidden Dance and it was magical as only shit movies can be. Good cinema is totally overrated, since trashy atrocities are always much more fun!
Best Christmas movie experience was Gone with the Wind, with commentary from my Grandma, who watched it for the first/only time in 1940 when she was ten y.o., and still remembered every frame with such richness in details, so that in the end I was less enjoying the film than enjoying her recollection of it.
Christmas gift nomination: Amy Adams (who people are slowly but surely starting to hate) knocks someone out of Best Actress, or better yet Clint Eastwood knocks somebody from Best Actor (preferably Joaquin Phoenix), for The Trouble with the Curve. It's been a while since the Academy has trolled people and I long for the fun that comes along everytime something like Crash or Meryl 3rd happens and heads explode! Best chance we seem to have this year is Silver Linings, so Harvey better bring it!

2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience was when I saw Letters From Iwo Jima because, having already seen Flags of Our Fathers, I had no idea Letters was going to be so good and so moving.

For Christmas this year we watched Brave and it was pretty much as wonderful as it was when I saw it in theaters back in June.
Can't answer the second - I never see movies in the theater on Christmas Day, and usually whatever I watch at home is something I've already seen.
If Oscar voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Moonrise Kingdom for best original screenplay - and it'll win.
For Christmas this year, we saw The Hobbit (on Christmas Eve) and Les Miz (Christmas Day). The first was good but LOOOOOOOOOOONG, and would have been better if they had just made it its own movie as opposed to a prequel to the LOTR films. As for the latter... I have too many thoughts, but it was good-but-not-great, except for Jackman and Hathaway and the finale, all of which were perfect or damn close to it.
My favorite Christmas movie-going experience ever was when I saw Chicago, because it was basically an entire theater full of musical theater people, all of whom were so enraptured with everything that we all applauded like it was a stage show. AMAZING.
If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Stephen Chbosky's screenplay for Perks of Being a Wallflower. And/or Matthew McConaughey.

For Christmas this year we watched It's a Wonderful Life and it was too sentimental and idealistic to really enjoy. I can't believe George Bailey is truly happy at the end of the movie as he's still stuck in his dead-end town and hasn't realized his dreams.
My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw the Lord of the Rings films on three consecutive Christmas' because I watched it with members of my family (who I rarely watch movies with) and I had just finished reading the books a year before the first movie was released; a great moviegoing experience.
If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate The Master for all the big awards because it was by far the best movie I've seen this year.
1. For Christmas this year we watched Parenthood and it was Dianne Weist porn. Naturally it was wonderful.
2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Once because my dad got it for me on DVD without knowing anything about it and the surprise of it being so lovely and delicate and wonderful was a perfect Christmas moment.

1. For Christmas this year we watched Les Mis and it was interesting. Not sure how I feel. It was almost bashing me over the head with its emotions. Hugh and Anne were great, so were Amanda and Eddie (he will be nominated for a BAFTA, methinks), but Russel Crowe was awful. Helena Bonham Carter was such a bland "duh" choice and can't sing so like, no. And Samantha Barks was decent, but I think I would've enjoyed seeing Lea Michele in that role more. I Dreamed a Dream actually didn't affect me like I expected it to. The ending did get me though, when it got to the last quarter or so, it was really affecting. Overall I liked it, but jesus the closeups! And it's definitely not perfect.
2. None because that's not a tradition for us haha, so I guess I'll choose this one. :P
3. If Oscar voters want to give me a gift, they WON'T nominate Helen Mirren. And they will also nominate the following people: Quezahanasnsaje Wallis, Rachel Weisz, Emanuelle Riva, Matthew McConaughey, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington (assuming her role is even awards worthy, haven't seen it yet, might tomorrow), Nicole Kidman, Adele ... I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting. Either way, I'm happy that this season has so many uncertainties. So much more fun that the last few years. I don't even mind the idea of Leo being nominated in supporting if it means he can get an Oscar that so many want him to get in a performance that I hear is very good and stop other "alright" performances from earning someone a second Oscar.
I'm almost wishing for a les mis and jackman WIN on oscar night, if only to witness a particular meltdown on the oscar blogosphere.
1. Les Miz, fantastic and heartbreaking; The Hobbit, not as bad as people have been saying.
2. I'm thinking Les Miz takes the cake, because the big Christmas releases coming to mind were big disappointments and it was much more emotional than I expected.
3. This year there's a huge list, but to be honest, Kidman getting in would lighten up any big misses because it would be hilarious.
For Christmas this year we watched Frankenweenie and it was a real delight: so funny and moving at the same time, a true return to form for Burton.
My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Who Framed Roger Rabbit? back to 1988, because I fell in love with Jessica Rabbit and now I know that it was the first step into my actressexuality awareness.

The Academy can make sure both Kidman (1st Actress in a Supporting Role nod) and Paul Thomas Anderson (screenplay and director) show up.
1. For Christmas this year we watched "Les Mis" and I have really mixed feelings about it. There are so many things about it that I love love love, especially Annie, but Russell Crowe and that insane use of the close-up really keep me from loving it as much as I want to.
2. This will sound terrible, but my favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when my dad pinched a nerve in his foot outside the theater and had to go to the ER because it meant I didn't have to see "Valkyrie." No shame. Still haven't seen it.
3. If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Ezra Miller and Dwight Henry, because I know that Allison Janney for "Liberal Arts" would be asking WAY too much.
For Christmas this year, we watched Les Miz and I loved it. I drag my brother and nephew along and I thought they're gonna hate it but to my surprise they loved it too and shed a few tears also. Me? I cried the whole movie... It certainly has some flaws (I'm looking at you Russell) but the result is so beautiful and emotional, you forget about them.
My favorite Christmas going movie experience ever was when I saw Chicago with my family. I usually bring them to the movies on Christmas, and almost always there's a musical to see.

For Christmas this year I watched Potiche (I know I'm late) and I respect Ozon's creativity more and more.
I also watched People Like Us and I love Pfeiffer more and more. Your capsule review is soooooo acurate.
1. For Christmas this year we watched Django Unchained and it was hilariously bloody! I thought Samuel L. Jackson completely ran away with it and it made me mad he's not in the discussion as much as the other two 'supporting' men. Oh, and Kerry Washington was a vision but I sorely wished she had more to do. Overall, not bad but definitely nowhere near QT's best and anyone who says it is... is simply talking out of their ass and should be redirected to Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill. But my most important takeaway is: QT needs to officially stop with the revenge stories.
2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw a double feature of Broken Embraces and A Single Man in 2009 because it was amazing and I had been waiting for both for the longest time and both were gorgeous, heartbreaking films with great performances and the general experience was pretty magical and serendipitous considering how many things could've gone wrong that night and simply didn't.
3. If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate a kick-ass Best Actress line-up, which won't include Mirren or Watts. Too many good and unusual contenders this year for either to take up precious space. I feel like the Mad Hatter and March Hare, "No room! No room!". But, really, c'mon, there isn't space for that default (Mirren) and arbitrary narrative BS (Watts) this year!

If Oscar voters wanted to give me a gift, they will nominate Nicole Kidman for The Paperboy because she is an underrated actress yet the bravest one working today.
1. For Christmas this year we watched Lincoln and it was very wordy, exhilarating at times and featured a great performance by DDL, so lived in and wonderful and now I sort of understand why he hogged all of the Oscar buzz. But I am also pissed that the SAG ensemble nomination left out such great work by actors like Gloria Rueben, I mean really WTF!
2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Bugsy in the cinema with my sister because of that amazing close up shot of Annette Bening when (spoiler alert) she was told that he had been killed and just generally her awesomeness in the film ("why don't you go outside and jerk yourself a soda") I knew right then and there that I loved actresses and acting and movies. The Bening deserved to win the Oscar that year and the fact that she was not even nominated still baffles me today.
3. If Oscar Voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Ann Dowd for Best Actress in Compliance, I have not even seen the film but by all accounts she is incredible in it and the fact that she has to campaign in supporting for even just a chance at a nomination and her having to self fund her campaign because she is not a star just puts me on her side automatically. Even if I end up watching and hating the performance I won't mind.

1. For Christmas this year we watched the Winona Ryder Little Women and it was fun seeing an embryonic Claire Danes' patented and still recognisable cry-face, now matured into a fine vintage on Homeland. Seriously though, that film holds up as completely charming, even as it feel decidedly old-fashioned in its wholesome "family-fare" style of filmmaking. And it's a total delight watching Ryder pull off winsome without being self-conscious or affected. Kirsten Dunst is in it for far less than I remember though!
2. My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw The Fellowship of the Ring because it only took until the title came up over Frodo sitting in a lushly verdant Hobbiton for me to be completely transported and enthralled. I still haven't seen the Hobbit but I hope it doesn't taint that formative cinematic memory.

1. Nothing yet on the big screen - but will see Lincoln and The Hobbit in the next couple of days. Watched the Doctor Who Christmas special last night and it was a solid B.

My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw nothing because I hate crowds and small children in movie theaters. (Seriously, I checked and I haven't seen a movie on Xmas Day in at least 12 years.)

1. We saw The Hobbit on Christmas Eve. The scenery was once again beautiful, and parts of it were fun but it was way too long withtoo many battle scenes for me. I remember the book being more lighthearted.
2. The theater near my house played A Christmas Story and It's A Wonderful Life this past weekend, and seeing them on the big screen, without commercials, with lots of audience participation, and $1 popcorn!! was really magical.
3. I agree with those who would like to see nominations for Moonrise Kingdom and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also would like to see Anna Karenina get some love as it stayed with me for days after seeing it. My future Oscar wish (now that Mark Ruffalo has a nomination) is to see Ewan McGregor get nominated.

For Christmas this year, we watched Amadeus, which has been a semi-Christmas tradition of mine for around 25 years now. I'm still planning to see Les Miz and Django sometime within the next week though.
My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw Amelie because (a) it's such a sweet, enchanting movie and (b) it's one of the last movies I got to see with my dad.
If Oscar voters want to give me a gift they'll nominate Wes Anderson for best director, because he's my favorite contemporary filmmaker.
For Christmas this year we watched Les Miz, and it was shockingly good. I had heard so much about it being lousy (thanks Entertainment Weekly) that I was quietly blown away. I saw it with my Dad & Stepmom and they never are effusive about movies, but my Stepmom was crying and my Dad actually applauded at the end (surely a first?).
I am really, really hoping in some impossible way that Eddie Redmayne gets an Oscar nomination out of this movie. He blew me away. Such a great tenor range. And if he doesn't get an Oscar nomination, well then I hope he gets a recording deal. I'd buy that record!
1. For Christmas this year we watched Les Miserables in a packed theatre and it was good but not great. Did not overwhelm me with emotion like the first time I saw the stage play in London in 1989. However, I agree with all the other comments that Eddie Redmayne was much better than expected, as were the voices of the Enjolas and his other comrades. Russell Crowe can surely act, but I wonder who was first cast as Javert 'cuz no way in hell RC was #1 on that list.
2. Best Christmas movie experience was the first time I saw Christmas in Connecticut and fell in love with the young Barbara Stanwyck.
3. Oscar voters will give me a gift if they nominate Argo for best screenplay. It doesn't have to win, but it should be in the company of other great films of 2012.
For Christmas this year we watched "The Bishop's Wife " (1947) on TCM a perfect holiday movie.
1. For Christmas this year we watched THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTOIN and it was not QUITE as enchanting as I remember, but it was more profound and just as lovely and I still have no qualms about it being my favourite 2008 release.

My favorite Christmas moviegoing experience ever was when I saw CHOCOLAT and A MIGHTY HEART (even though it wasn't in theatres) because I saw it with my sister, who usually doesn't got for movies as much as I and she ended up liking both and after the stress of the latter the former was a beautiful delight, even if it's hated I think Juliette and everything about it is generally winsome.
