Cartoon Brew is interviewing the makers of the Oscar nominated animated short films each morning. This one is on The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore which I reviewed last week.

The Incredible Suit rants about the whole embarrassing ordeal of a national awards show (BAFTA) that's not aired live and then only aired in a highlights package. It's true. That's one of the reasons why it's the only regular movie awards show that many movie fans seem to feel okay about skipping.

Coming Soon Bryan Fuller the genius behind the very original series Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies is sadly only doing reinterpretations now. We hope it's due to Hollywood's risk aversion and not due to his creative well drying up. His next two projects are a Munsters redo (pushed back) and now a TV series about Hannibal Lecter which has a direct-to-series order. Difficult to imagine it in series form but Fuller does fine work.

The Film Experience is the only site that seems to know who Benjamin Walker is -- it cracks me up that people headline this as a Tim Burton project just because he is the only "name" among the executive team -- but that's because we're the best. And the most Streep/Stage obsessed of movie sites.

Nathaniel, do you think Matt Bomer will be a good choice for "The Normal Heart" as Felix Turner? I mean, compared to John Benjamin Hickey, he seems such and odd choice.

And I LOVE Tapley's Best Shot series. Good choices all around. Though, with Martha Marcy May Marlene I would've chosen the shot with Sarah Paulson and Hugh Dancy desperately trying to comfort a hysterical Elizabeth Olsen on one side of the bedroom with the other side of the stark bedroom looking pure and pristine.
Also sad the shot of Chris New grasping Tom Cullen's arm from Weekend didn't make the cut. It's one of the shots of 2011 that still haunts me.

Tapley's list of the 10 best shots of '11 were mostly good but I was seriously side-eyeing a couple of those pics. Hugo? Tintin? Nothing from Dragon Tattoo? Tree of Life not #1? Gurl.
Peggy Sue -- i haven't seen Bomer act (never seen white collar) so i couldn't tell you. But he does seem a bit young/pretty for that role, sure. I don't really trust Ryan Murphy anywhere near this story and I'm a little sad that none of the broadway cast is tranferring with it.It's not like they were "unknowns".

with regards to the BAFTA broadcast, there is a really strange culture here in the UK of wanting to only show 'highlights' of awards shows. The Grammy ceremony was edited down to 1 1/2 hour highlight show a few nights ago and they cut out the Etta James tribute and went straight to Alicia Keys and Bonnie Rait presenting the award, and many awards / performances were not broadcast. The Oscars are always shown as a 'highlights' show the next night and often you miss probably the funnest parts. Same with The Emmys which aren't broadcast live at all but show in a highlights package the next night.
There is definitely room for the BAFTA ceremony to be shown live, there is a red-button digital service that runs things like this for the BBC all the time, they need to sort it out.
