Huffington Post a live-blogged review of critical punching bag Pompeii
Pajiba on Lupita Nyong'o on Ellen. We already knew Ellen was a perfect talk show host but Lupita is a natural at talk show guesting as well
Gurus of Gold top threes in each category from the Gurus. Looks like I'm way off consensus on Adaped Screenplay and Editing
Slate Turns out "Chivo", cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, has an instagram feed and Slate is crazy besotted with it
Pop & Hiss P!nk added to performers list at the Oscars. We're guessing aerial acrobatics but they already had those really recently at an Oscars ceremony... like I think just two years ago, right?

NY Times Manohla Dargis delivers an impassioned ode to Jennifer Lawrence's huge career... and thinks she's going to win Sunday night
/Film reports on the Live Read of Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction in LA. Lizzy Caplan did the Uma/Amanda parts and Joseph Gordon-Levitt did Vincent Vega and, yes, they got up and danced
NY Times honestly I take issue with this report that Oscar nominations didn't do much for the box office of the nominees. While I agree that the expanded Best Picture field has seriously diluted the marketing pull of "Best Picture!" a lot of these movies would not have done even half of what they did without Oscar buzz. I'm talking ALL of the non-star driven ones
Culture Monster was 2013 really a great year at the movies or does social media just exaggerate all the love?
Playbill oh dear. Lea Michele hasn't given up on starring on Funny Girl on Broadway just yet. Her #1 accomplice Ryan Murphy aims to help her
Keyframe have you seen the video essays on who deserves the Oscars. I thought Best Actress was fairly interesting
In Contention talks to the sound team on All is Lost
Awards Daily talks to Steven Price about Gravity

Finally, in case you haven't heard The LEGO Movie will be getting a sequel 1190 days from now on May 26th, 2017. Everything will probably not still be awesome -- I loved the movie but it seems like the perfect one-off rather than anything sustainable --  but franchise culture, Lord Business, and the grosses demand it.

Somebody is obviously singing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', right? So... Bette or Pink?

Dean -- i'm hearing that yeah. Too bad they're not saying my name :)

Oh Lea Michele... her doing Funny Girl would be so miscast. She doesn't fit Fanny Brice at all. She's really talented though, I would've been interested in her in Les Miserables.

Shouldn't Lea Michelle be spending every waking minute finding loopholes to get Wicked made as a movie with a decent (maybe even good) director? That's obviously the starring role she was born to play. The internet might even forgive her for being Glee's poster child.

Also, while it never would have crossed my mind before, Bette and Pink should do a duet on "Wind Beneath My Wings" for In Memoriam. I mean it will never happen, but it would be amazing.

I've been watching the Fandor videos, which are really well put together even though I almost never agree with Kevin Lee's conclusions! It's a fun project though, listening to someone talk his way through his opinions, offering evidence from the performances along the way.

Violet Weston is not a subtle role. Cate also does a lot of scene-chewery. Just look at clip with the kids.

eurocheese. you're so correct!

I watched all four Fandor's videos on who deserves to win in all four acting categories. He got some interesting points there but he also have some personal choices that I can't agree on.

In every videos he ends with the performance he thinks most deserved to win (Dern, Bullock, Cooper, Hawkins). Sometimes he blatantly speak it out (Cooper), in other times he is obviously a lot more enthusiastic in his comment than the other four (Bullock, Dern). But I'm afraid I can't agree with his comment on Leto and N'yongo. He thought Leto is the least among the five (seriously? I thought Cooper is the least among the five), and he also atsrts with N'yongo in the supporting actress category which indirectly means he thinks she is least deserving (he actually said something about the performance is more about the pain of the character than N'yongo's performance, something like that I can't remember the exact words).

Dead at the Kim Basinger stuff in the Manohla piece on J.Law!

"Pompeii" is hokey beyond belief- it doesn't even work as camp.

Bia -- right? it's great.

Really liked Kevin Lee's argument for Bullock. My vote is still Blanchett but I have to agree. That woman has to keep the audience riveted for 72 minutes through a relatively limited scope of emotions and dialogue, or space to let the performance "breath" (sometimes literally, haha) as we see in more actor-friendly vehicles, and she has to make us love her enough to invest 72 minutes into watching her hyperventilate her way back to Earth. That's a hell of an achievement for anyone. I'm SO glad it didn't fall into the hands of the wrong actress.
