This new unconventional episode of the podcast features two guests and two conversations. First Nathaniel calls Australia to check in with Glenn Dunks to see what he's been up to cinematically since leaving NYC. And then a conversation with Guy Lodge in London about his experience at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Enjoyed the Carol convo. However I'd like to say something about Haynes and Oscar. Shouldn't we as his fans embrace what he calls "his most linear"' movie ie most accessible with more Oscar enthusiasm. PTA and Wes Anderson made it to Oscar's shorlist with movies that weren't that different from what they built their reputation on. Maybe it's Haynes time. It can only happen if his fans start embracing it as an Oscar player. Maybe it's being a "Haynes film is not a deterrent. Not when he has this story, these actresses, this acclaim. Let's not say it won't happen.
Of course this is only in Oscar terms. Understand you love him. Know that Carol will be remembered for years beyond this next awards season, no matter what happens.
Aren't Carol and The Danish Girl the two movies with the most buzz? The gay/trans topics are very hot lately, this could definitely push them.

Murtada: No one's saying it won't happen! But it doesn't hurt to be guarded. I don't think Carol is any more linear (or more accessible, which isn't quite an equivalent term) than Far From Heaven. Right now, I anticipate the film being embraced by the Academy to a similarly respectable-but-moderate degree, though anything can happen between now and January.
Loved this podcast! Nathaniel, now I DO have that song in my head! And that's a good thing. I'm a big fan of Coppola's movie. So underrated and a visual smorgasbord, and Oldman is impressive. The inside look at Cannes is fascinating. I have always wanted to go. I think Carol's Oscar chances would be helped immensely by a late-summer release so word of mouth can build.
And Glenn has a great laugh!
Great podcast guys! Finding myself listening to more Annie Lennox songs, due to this podcast and Nathnaiel's love from said diva. Loving also all the love that my homie Miguel Gomes latest film is getting. I hope that in the future more Portuguese directors will emerge in future years. God knows that there's more to Portuguese cinema besides Manoel de Oliveira and Pedro Costa. Keep up the great work!
Brookesboy: 'Carol' is set for a December 18 release, which makes me a little nervous.
