Michael B. Jordan, HBO Book Burner
Chris here. Michael B. Jordan is getting the kind of adoration for his Black Panther anti-hero that makes Oscar types start whispering before they get locked in jail for bringing up next year before the current ceremony. (*whispers* but seriously when can we start that conversation?) However, it might not be too early to start some Emmy talk. You might have missed the quiet casting announcement awhile back, but the actor is about to headline a new adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 from indie darling director Ramin Bahrani and HBO.
Between Black Panther, this, and the fast-tracked Creed 2 arriving later this year, we'll be loving Jordan all year long...
Jordan and Bahrani's presence make a potentially stodgy retelling of Ray Bradbury's science fiction book burning saga exponentially more intriguing, no? Also along for the timely tale is Bahrani's 99 Homes star Michael Shannon for some added intrigue and potential awards appeal. But there's more than Emmy speculation for this one: since the film will be coming in May, my Cannes antennae are also buzzing. Bahrani has played the in competition at the world's major festivals (and in Cannes' Directors Fortnight sidebar for Chop Shop) and HBO is no stranger to the fest. Might this be our first Cannes guess for the year?
What do you think of Fahrenheit 451's Emmy and Cannes chances?

I always thought it was ironic Fahrenheit 451 is all about how cool it is to burn books.. but it IS a book.
He's good in Black Panther but you're high as a fucking kite if you think he deserves awards or even nominations for it.
he's certainly hot enough to burn a book or two...
Ooh, so they updated it to modern times. That's very interesting.
par--ITA! He always sparks my special edition!
I just watched the Julie Christie version, and that is one wacky movie. I wasn't sure I liked it, but I keep thinking about it for some reason. There's something there in what Truffault has done.
I just hope it's better than the film version made by Truffaut which was OK but a real mess as it's my least favorite film by Truffaut.
Bradbury was a true visionary and "Farenheit 451" predicted our current idiot century- this looks good - the Truffaut movie was ok
