Beauty vs Beast: Running Mates
Jason Adams from MNPP here with this week's "Beauty vs Beast" query -- when I saw it written in my calendar that today is the 25th anniversary of The Fugitive my first thought is I must have done that movie for this series before, but a quick skim tells me I hadn't, and so here we are! I vividly remember The Fugitive coming out in the summer of 1993, a banner year for this movie-lover - I had gone to see Jurassic Park a dozen times by then and I needed something fresh and new to feed this newly awoken beast inside me; Harrison Ford leaping out of a train-crash did the trick.
I went to see the film several times after that, but save a few minutes here and there on TV I don't think I have seen it since? Still it's an easy enough film to remember, especially after we spent that entire year's awards season getting the clip of Tommy Lee Jones saying "gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse" hammered into our heads over and over and over, until he got his Oscar for it the next spring.
PREVIOUSLY Two weeks back we had you tackling PTA's The Master - turns out that Joaquin Pheonix holds that title, taking a precise 2/3rds of your vote. Said Devin D:
"This performance truly cemented Joaquin Phoenix as one of the irrefutable greats, and it was very nice that Philip Seymour Hoffman got to work yet again before his untimely passing with Paul Thomas Anderson in a role so sizable."

Only one of these men has Ralph Fiennes's Oscar for Schindler's List, and it isn't Harrison Ford!
You mean Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar?
How DARE you
Fun movie but the Jones Oscar win is bizarre.
A tough choice since they are both so good in the film. I went with TLJ because he's so smooth but Ford is equally terrific. I'm glad Tommy Lee has an Oscar but I don't think I'd give to him for this particular performance even as much as I enjoy him in the film.
I'll go with Jones. Ford is excellent as usual, but Jones is a powerhouse here and I'm happy he got the Oscar for it (although to me it's a leading role!).
Dr. Kimble was innocent! "The Fugitive" still holds up well 25 years later. It was the first film I took notice of Julianne Moore. She had a small role as a doctor but was so effective that I thought her character would be more involved in the story.
I only saw this movie because I had seen Julianne in The Hand that rocks the Cradle in 92 and began seeing everything with her name in it,I was too obsessed waiting for her to notice much about the plot,Ford was his usual dull self,Jones shouted a lot and got Leo's Oscar or Ralph's whichever you think was worthier.
Jones' win feels more overdue narrative than genuine best of the nominees.
Who should have won the Oscar for best supporting actor of 1993 :
1.Ralph Fiennes
2.Leonardo DiCaprio
3.Pete Postlethwaite
4.John Malkovich
5. Tommy Lee Jones
I want to see Tommy Lee Jones and Frances McDormand get cast as the Grouchiest Couple Ever in a movie together.
One of the great Supporting Actor lists. I would pick Fiennes followed very closely by DiCaprio.
God I would love to see the vote totals for that year. Bet it was sooo close betwenn Jones, Fiennes , and DiCaprio.
@JJM Tommy Lee Jones and McDormand in a romantic comedy!
That was a strong supporting actor category in 1993. I would rank them:
1. Fiennes
2. Jones
3. DiCaprio
4. Postlethwaite
5. Malkovich.
I would have been happy had any of them won, and it was a close race between the top 3.
Kimble, because that is Leo's Oscar. I agree that it's a he'll of a line-up though, and I love that two performances from action movies are nominated!
It's "WHOSE team are you on?", not WHO'S as in "WHO IS team are you on?"
