Shit, Erivo can win all the EGOT for the same role!!!
Missed the most important news: Berlinale switches to gender neutral acting awards.
or maybe you saving it for a whole post were we can vent?
Peggy Sue
Terrible and bad decision in my opinion.
So they are just going to have one category for actors?
I'm not buying the cataclysmic danger of going to the movies, not with the safety measures currently in place. The Music Box Theater in Chicago has been open for months and there's been no issue there. Just wear a mask while you're seated if you're concerned.
I know she played Nettie on stage, but I would love to see Renée Elise Goldsberry as Shug.
What's wrong with just Best Actor and Best Actress.
the idea of winning an EGOT all for the same role is the most boring proposition in the world to me. the fun thing about an actor who wins awards in multiple media is that it displays their versatility with different roles across those fields. while i realize an argument can be made for the modulation of the role across the media, it's certainly not as fun, exciting, or as great an accomplishment as winning for all different roles in four different fields.
thefilmjunkie- YES to casting Goldsberry as Snug! In fact, they could have Erivo and Danielle Brookes reprise their roles from the revival as well and they'd have 3 possible Oscar nominations (Actress, Supporting Actress ×2).
If J Hud does well in Respect, she’ll be Shug.
Cynthia is winning that Oscar.
With The Color Purple (1985) losing 11 Oscars but being seen as a stone cold classic today, including Whoopi's Best Actress loss in a starmaking and extraordinary performance, Erivo is a shoe-in for the Oscar win. Not even nomination, win.
Jonathan - The virus doesn’t seem to care whether you buy it or not, judging by the rates at which students of every age are contracting it. I’m certainly not risking my life by going on campus and that provides considerably more space than a theater.
Celie has been a breakthrough role for the actress who plays her. She should continue to be so. Erivo had her moment and was rewarded handsomely. Oprah can find a new discovery.
Jonathan is uninformed about protection during this pandemic. When you wear a mask you are mostly protecting other people, not yourself. So even if you wear a mask in the theatre it’s not really gonna protect you if no one else in there is wearing a mask. I work in a café and even when people arent eating or drinking they’re still sitting there with their masks off. Same thing on the subway too. Even though it’s being “enforced”. I don’t trust that people will be safe.
I managed to get tickets for Labor Day weekend to a drive-in show of TENET that's about a 35-40 minute drive away from me. Worth it? We'll see. I'm not a Nolan fangirl, but I do think his movies are best seen on a big screen.
The director of "Black Is King" is going to direct this? Then Beyoncé is playing Shug Avery. And she'll somehow be billed above whoever plays Celie lol. (I'm only halfway joking there. Bey will win her Oscar one way or another, even if she has to tack on a dumb end credits song to this where she barely contributed a sentence to).
Shit. I loved "I am Not Okay with This" and was looking forward to its return.
