What did you see this past weekend? Among the new options were the Sundance hits Shortcomings an Asian American drama and the bisexual drama Passages starring Ben Whishaw, Adele Exarchopolous and Franz Rogowski. In wide release the new titles were action movies like Meg 2 and the latest reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. But Barbie still reigns...

Checked out HAUNTED MANSION for the cast which was a bit wasted, but man LaKeith Stanfield did NOT need to be THAT HOT in that film. Hoo boy! I also saw and enjoyed SHORTCOMINGS. The fact that the movie namedropped both Margot Robbie AND Christopher Nolan was pretty coincidental and funny.

On the TV side, I binged S2 of HEARTSTOPPER on Netflix. Olivia Colman appearing in random streaming shows is my one of my favorite thing (see S2 of THE BEAR in a kickass episode and Disney+'s SECRET INVASION which wasn't great but SHE was fantastic in it).

I saw quite a few films some rewatches lots of horror

The Ex Suzy Amis starring written by Larry Cohen Fatal Attraction knock off, ludicrous.

A Bridge Too Far star studded 1977 war drama,I was bored despite all those stars.

Watchers Corey Haim 80's sci fi,entertaining but silly.

Jungle Fever excellent follow up to Do The Right Thing,Samuel L Jackson was fantastic

Presumed Innocent 90's thriller with a buzz cut Harriosn Ford and a chilling Bonnie Bedelia

Fright Night 2 poor follow up even Roddy couldn't save it

The Stuff 1980's people eating yoghurt horror.

Marilyn Reframed 3 hour documentary,i'm not sure all the say about MM is accurate.

Spider's Web 1961 Glynis Johns comedy whodunnit.

I saw Kimi. Soderbergh's filmography is so RANDOM.

I wish he had another Erin Brockovich in him.

Speaking of random Soderbergh, has anyone seen Full Circle? Just finished it. Was slightly above average, but the Caribbean voodoo stuff didn't really land. Was like a more complicated version of The Undoing.

Nothing new, but I did watch the 6 hour 'Little Dorrit' (1987) with Derek Jacobi and Alec Guinness. It's an odd piece, absent the production budget of a BBC adaptation it still manages to wow with the costuming (the idiosyncrasies of the top hats alone are fascinating). Slips into a mess of contrived coincidences by the end, but that's largely the fault of Dickens.

Passages comes out in the UK in a couple of weeks, I'm very excited to catch it when it does. Do you think Franz Rogowski or Ben Whishaw (criminally overlooked for his work in Women Talking last year) have any chance of getting nominations, Nat?

Oppenheimer this past Saturday and... FUCK!!!! Give some acting honors to Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. along with accolades for its cinematography, editing, sound, visual effects and music. Christopher Nolan has done it again! I just hope he doesn't do another film like Tenet which was just a mess.

I fell into the Barbie trap ... still a bit puzzled about the hype - the whole movie is not really my thing - but hats off to Gerwig! Gosling steals the whole movie for me - he should be locked for a nod - looking at his career after this - he IS actually so due.

I watched Notes Of A Scandal again after a long time - and was blown away by the tight woven thriller that it actually makes. Dench is so phenomenal and this should have been her crown Oscar. Quite astonishing that the hype was not so great about her back then.

Also saw Midnight in Paris for the first time - as I never really liked Owen Wilson I somehow avoided it - and think it became one of my favourite Allen movies ... Wilson was perfection in this.

What is happening to our beloved predictions ? I know Nathaniel has been very busy - but I miss them ... so intrigued where you guys see everyone at this point xxx

thevoid -- language please. i swear every comment has the F word in it.

BJT -- i do not. It's way too unsentimental and arthouse european.

Martin -- I JUST PUT UP THE SUPPORTING ACTOR predictions. so we're finally off. I apologize for the long wait.

Nathaniel R - that's a shame, but you're probably right. Maybe it'll become something that people who know cherish, like the rest of Ira Sach's back catalogue.

Sadly, I did not love Passages as I had hoped to. I found so many things distracting here - the costumes, A Circus of Books art piece, a Liza Minnelli look-a-like...I'll leave it at that so not spoil the plot details.

I did love M:I Dead Reckoning. What thrills. I have to start admitting to myself that I love Tom Cruise.

Theater Camp was a hilarious delight. I'm not even a theater person and I loved it! Laughed out loud throughout.

Rewatches of Children of Men (even scarier today) and Pee-Wee's Playhouse -- both held up beautifully.
