Showbiz History: Band-Aid and "Best Original Song" Behemoths

6 random things that happened on this day (Nov 25th) in showbiz history...

1932 Claudette Colbert infamously bathes in milk in Cecil B DeMille's The Sign of the Cross, new in theaters.

1947 The Hollywood Blacklist begins, denying employment to those with perceived Communist ties or sympathies. This period has haunted ever self-reflecting Hollywood since as witness in Trumbo, The Way We Were, Guilty by Suspicion, Good Night and Good Luck, and numerous other movies.

1984 Bob Geldolf's blockbuster charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" recorded in London...

Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown Sign Up for Frozen 2

Chris here. Now that Frozen's Broadway adaptation was largely met with "meh", fans are all eyes on next year's upcoming sequel. While we have the headling cast of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel returning along with original directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, we have had nary a detail about what to expect before the film arrives on November 27, 2019. But now we have two new exciting additions to the cast, two recent Emmy nominees This Is Us' Sterling K. Brown and Westworld's Evan Rachel Wood.

Naturally, we have no details whatsoever on who they will be playing but that need not stop us from speculating. Brown has become something of a steady franchise supporting player, having appeared earlier this year in Black Panther and will show up in this year's rehash of The Predator. With Santino Fontana's surprise villain Hans out of the picture, could he be a new romantic rival for Anna? Wood's presence however presents an intriguing notion or two - starting with the excitement that she might sing on screen again. The bigger question: could she be the answer to the Give Elsa A Girlfriend petition?

Stage Door: Best Musical Nominees at the Tony Awards

by Nathaniel R

Though I have not seen as much Broadway theater as I'd hoped to this year, I have finally managed to see all of the nominees in the big kahuna Tony category: Best Musical. This is the marquee category each year in that it's the one that matters financially and for bragging rights the way "Best Picture," "Drama Series," and "Album of the Year" are saved for last at the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys respectively... even if you might personally think other prizes more significant or telling. Let's rank the nominees after the jump, shall we?

Stage Door: Disney's Frozen

by Dancin' Dan

Caissie Levy stars as Elsa

You can feel the audience's anticipation. Not for the show to begin, not for the star to come on stage, but for the act one finale, from the moment you step inside the St. James Theater to see Frozen. That's not necessarily a surprise, "Let It Go" being the kind of world-conquering hit song that feels like it's in short supply these days. But it is a strange strange thing to feel when you're seeing a new musical...

Link is an Open Door

let's catch up on news stories...

Tracking Board ABC developing a live-action sitcom remake of The Jetsons
Vulture a tribute to the bungled non-release of Tulip Fever
Criterion a Joan Crawford double feature Daisy Kenyon and Sudden Fear on filmstruck
Cinema Enthusiast polled cinephiles on the best films of 1969. Lots of opinions though it's beyond troubling that They Shoot Horses, Don't They? which runs laps around almost everything produced in 1969, just barely squeezes into the top ten

more after the jump including but not limited to Wonder Woman 2, Obi Wan Kenobi, mother!, Frozen, and The Conjuring.
