Hit Me With Your Best Shot: "Barbarella"

Barbarella comes from the 41st century so theoretically she knows a thing or to. Perhaps she can tell me from the future how to choose a best shot from her infamous movie? Though I’d seen at least some of Barbarella before – I’ve never forgotten the hilarious space-burlesque title sequence -- now I've seen all of Barbarella. In both senses.

There's certainly a lot to look at but I’ve rarely been more stumped with this series... more

Visual Index ~ Barbarella Psychadella

This was such a hit with The Wizard of Oz, that I thought I'd do it for each new episode of Hit Me With Your Best Shot. The images will be arranged in chronological order as they happen in the film (for the most part... I mean, I can't vouch for total accuracy since Barbarella's plotting is... um... lacking and the imagery isn't easy to place in context).

Visual Index ~ The Wonderful Best Shot(s) of Oz

can you believe that no one chose this shot?Do I plug this series too much? "Plug! Plug!"

The next Hit Me With Your Best Shot is Barbarella (1968) on Wednesday March 13th (join us!) but I wasn't quite ready to let The Wizard of Oz go just yet. Hit Me With Your Best Shot: "The Wizard of Oz"

A brief preface for new readers: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" is a series in which we invite all movie lovers to share their choice of 'best shot' from a single pre-selected film on their own web space (twitpic, blogger, tumblr, whatever) each Wednesday night. The joy of the series is seeing the same film through multiple eyes. "Best", not just Beauty, being in the eye of the beholder.

I love the sepia opening scenes more than I can say...

So, what is the takeaway image of The Wizard of Oz (1939) for you? How do you define best and does that definition change with each movie? My choice and several others are somewhere over the rainbow after the jump

"Are you a good witch or a bad witch?"

Fess up!

Or maybe the answer will be obvious next Wednesday when we see your choice for "Best Shot" from The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Don't forget the 4th season of Hit Me With Your Best Shot begins next Wednesday evening, and most Wednesday evenings thereafter in spring and summer. Make it the biggest most festive season yet by playing along. All you need is a web place (facebook, blog, twitter, tumblr, youtube, whichever) to post your choice for the film's best shot with or without a reason why. You can choose from aesthetics, personal connection, thematic impact, etcetera. Beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

JOIN: March 6th (The Wizard of Oz); March 13th (Barbarella); March 20th (TBA); March 27th (Jackie Brown). Hit us and we'll hit you back!
