True Blood's Mercy Killing

Here's Adam Armstrong and me on the series finale of True Blood. My comments after Adam's -Nathaniel

One thing you should know about me: I am a pro-rationalizer. I don’t enjoy disliking things, especially when it comes to movies and TV shows. So many people, so much hard work, so on and so forth. Take for example, this one time, on the way home from seeing the third Paranormal Activity movie. I was so invested in the series I went to every midnight showing. I loved them. And then that movie played its final 20 mins, and it was fucking garbage. It was the American Horror Story: Coven of movies before Coven was even around.* Seriously, was Ryan Murphy a creative consultant for the ending of that movie? But, still, on that ride home, ridden with disappointment and rage, I clung to one aspect of the movie I liked in order to forcibly admire it. “BUT, THAT ROTATING FAN SHOT, RIGHT?!”

However, some train wrecks are beyond extreme and unreasonable rationalization. As you damn well know, I was more than liking this season, especially when evaluated on the True Blood grading curve. But what the actual fuck True Blood? [more...]

True Blood: As exhausting as it is to hate Vampire Bill, we're still doing it...

Adam Armstrong is like our own TV grim reaper counting down to "True Blood"'s True Death. Only one episode to go before it's all over for the fang-bangers! Adam has dispensed with narrative tissue and is just train-of-thoughting it now in the homestretch... I'll join Adam next week for the series wrap. - Nathaniel

Episode 7.8 "Almost Home"
I’m done. I’m done. I’m done. You know, in the beginning of the episode, while Bill was pouring his unbeating heart out to Sookie, I thought to myself, I’m tired of hating Bill. It’s become too exhausting. Look at him, his voice cracking and all. Okay, I can get behind him and Sookie ending up together. Even if it’s just easier and requires less strain on my brain than remembering why I hate him.

AND THEN THE EPISODE ENDED THE WAY IT DID.

I hate him again!

I don’t want the blood.”

Oh, you don’t Bill Compton? You don’t want the antidote? [more...]

The Normal Heart of True Blood Seasons

Sarah or "Noomi"?Here's Adam continuing the march to True Blood's "true death" in just a few weeks...

Alright, so first thing first, does anybody remember last week’s episode? I was racking my brain trying to remember just what the hell happened, and all I can come up with is Sarah Newlin is the new Jesus and Bill went all Red Eye and stabbed a lawyer through in the throat when he didn’t get his way. So…there’s last week’s recap.

Now, on to this weekend's episode "May Be The Last Time"

True Blood was doing soooo well for a few episodes. Plot lines were moving forward, and when they weren’t, characters were growing and deepening, a real rarity in the True Blood universe. Even if this weeks episode wasn’t terrible lets just say that while watching the episode I became increasingly more entranced by the homemade ice cream I made (just two frozen bananas & almond milk blended in a Magic Bullet! Who knew?) than by what was actually happening on the screen.

In between mouthfuls of my glorified frozen banana puree, these thoughts pop in my head...

True Blood: Return to Oz

Here's Adam, who is still on the death march to True Blood's final episode.

This weekend's episode of True Blood took place almost entirely at Sookie's house as assorted Bon Tempser forced a celebration of life on the grieving fairy. Eventually Sam Merlotte’s girlfriend/fiancé/baby mama (I’m sure she was given a name at some point during the show, but I can’t/will never for the life of me remember it) stands up and causes a scene. She's all judgmental righteous and 'how can we just have a party while surrounded by all this death?' (because heaven forbid these characters have a chance to let loose and not shudder and scream every time they walk into a room, right?). She even manages to scream out, what are we all doing here?!

What am I even doing on this show?

Bitch, that’s what we’ve been asking of you since you suddenly appeared all willy-nilly last season as a lead character. Where was Letti Mae when her trusty butcher knife could’ve actually been useful?

Meanwhile, outside the party... Lets give a round of golf claps for Lafayette penetrating James, people! [Decidedly NSFW extremely impolite musings on this week's episode after the jump...]

True Blood 7.4: "Death is Not the End"

Adam is back to talk True Blood as it continues on its death march to the finale.

Ladies and gents, True Blood. Is. Back. Watching this week’s episode filled me with the same amount of giddy joy I felt when I had a bad day at work and came home to find my roommate offering me half of a large pizza (extra cheese, extra sauce) and Burlesque was playing on TV. It’s in those moments when you just can’t help but wonder, Really? All for me? Lucky for my sake, when the credits rolled, I didn’t have the inevitable too-good-to-be-true afterthought that comes with unexpected generosity.

The episode opened with Sookie and Jason notifying the closest kin of the deceased from the previous episode. Sookie informed Alcide’s father, Jackson, of his passing while Jason spoke with Hoyt Fortenberry about his mother. For a show about the undead, this is one of the only occurrences when death has had any weight and to it. Watching Hoyt and Jackson process their losses was crushing, even though I never cared for Alcide. While one was a human and the other a werewolf, neither one’s pain or hurt overshadowed the other, the same way both Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch Doritos Loco Tacos exist side by side on the Taco Bell menu (Okay, Okay, Cool Ranch obviously is better). The repercussions of death and the shockwaves that reverberate throughout these characters’ community appear to be at the heart of this final season. No matter who or what somebody is, nobody is impervious to its touch.  [More...]
