Martin Scorsese wins: Globes and some critics wins |
Woody used to be a favorite of the directors branch and this surprise hit is a ticket back. Plus it adds a bit of bite to this Year of Nostalgia since Woody's film finds it suspect! |
The frontrunning picture, however slim the margin, often carries the director to glory... but that's fine when the prizes are so richly deserved. |
The directors came through for one of the true auteurs. Can he keep up his current bizarrely quick (for him) working pace and make this regular like? |
Payne's films have historically not done as well on nomination morning as one might have expected Schmidt missing a few key nods, Sideways missing actor. But he does seem secure this year. |
The ongoing lifetime achievement meme + such a personal tribute to the cinema has won him much love this season. |

Judging by precursors this contest is between Hazanavius the nostalgic trickster and Scorsese the nostalgic sentimentalist. But I wouldn't rule out Payne since he's become more and more loved with each new film. But in the end let's say it'll be Hazanavicius |
