Kidman in Cannes. Part 1.

Jose here. The Cannes Film Festival starts today and I think we all can agree that the most important thing about it this year is the fact that Nicole Kidman is on the jury. Right?
This year's Competition Jury, as Nathaniel has already pointed out, might very well be the real life equivalent of The Avengers, with Nicole being reigning Queen of them all I know Spielberg's the President, shut up... so during the next eleven days, we'll cover Nicole sightings, as we watch her fiercefully conquer the world of auteurship and wonder what some of her most beloved characters would think about what she's up to...
The first Nicole sighting took place Tuesday evening as she showed up to the Jury dinner.
Who She Wore: Dior (hmm is she trying to steal the spotlight from the damoiselles de Dior?)
Which Director She's Trying to Lure: When I first saw this, I immediately thought David Lynch, because I thought it was blue…turns out everyone else rightfully saw it as black and now I keep thinking Wong Kar-wai because this dress screams In the Mood for Love.
What Suzanne Stone-Maretto would think of this: "I'm on TV! Let me shine!"

The second Nicole sighting was for an official Jury photo call where of course she was the standout.
Who She's Wearing: Alexander McQueen
Director She's Trying to Lure: Well, she's standing next to Steven, so let's assume him…although the romantic nature of the dress makes me think she's trying to woo Jane Campion back into her life.
What Satine Would Say: Re: Spielberg, "oh Harold, no one could play him like you could"

Who She's Wearing: Dior again
Director She's Trying to Lure: Well, either Baz or the late Jacques Demy. This is a Technicolor orgasm in the making if there ever was one.
What Grace Kelly Would Say: well played, Nicole.. .now let's see if the test material impresses anyone.

While Ms Kidman looks stunning as always, Mr Spielberg looks, well kinda ordinary. I mean there's nothing wrong with ordinary but come on Steven this is Cannes and you knew you would be photographed next to Nic.

I love this! It's definitely not hard for Nicole freaking Kidman to show up Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence, onscreen and on the red carpet. ;)

Not really. The Coen Brothers have a new film! Love Nicole's first sequined dress though.
Blush, I think the "most important thing is Nicole" comment is obviously tongue in cheek.
Although for me, she is the most exciting part this year.

That last outfit of Nicole's is mesmerizing. I've been ambivalent on her Grace Kelly project, but if it means she's going to keep showing up to things in Edith Head drag like this, I am 100% behind her.
