Linksmith

New York Social Diary RIP gossip columnist Liz Smith. I grew up reading her syndicated column *sniffle* This link is a remembrance of her by Denis Ferrara who was a very close friend and collaborator on her column
Esquire the ten best comedies of the year including Ingrid Goes West, Thor Ragnarok, Girls Trip, and Lady Bird
Independent Firing Kevin Spacey from House of Cards might be more difficult than Netflix thought, legally speaking
Awards Daily the case for Michelle Pfeiffer. Give her her damn Oscar already
Variety Zendaya is doing a film about the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar (who passed as white to do so). It's called A White Lie

Deadline Wonder Woman 2 has moved to a November 1st 2019 release and Gal Gadot, contrary to reports over the weekend, is already locked in to star. Patty Jenkins will direct again. We hope there's no sophomore slump because the first one was so damn enjoyable/inspiring
Variety keeps us updated with what's going on with Martin Scorsese's The Irishman which Netflix will stream. Variety, perhaps for click-bait purposes, acts like the theatrical release is in doubt but it is surely not; Scorsese would never sign a contract that doesn't give him at least some theatrical distribution so expect the usual limited release that no one goes to in theaters because its' also streaming for free on Netflix situation (upcoming with Mudbound)
IndieWire Denis Villeneuve might direct Bond 25 but right now a relaunch of Dune is still his priority
YouTube new trailer for The Greatest Showman. It's basically the old trailer with a couple more dialogue clips thrown in and some less tuneful than "This Is Me" song that Jackman is talk/singing. I'm still dying to see it because musicals for life, don'cha know
/Film Quentin Tarantino's next movie is about the year of 1969 rather than the Charles Manson murders as previously reported. Let's hope it's better than that 1988 film 1969 which starred Winona Ryder and Robert Downey Jr

Off Screen
Damn Joan a Barbie doll funeral
Vulture every Taylor Swift song ever, ranked. Fun read even though i think it's silly and click-baity to claim "Look What You Made Me Do" is the worst song she ever wrote
Theater Mania 11 Asian-American shows on stages this season across the country
Playbill Lin-Manuel Miranda's ongoing effort to help Puerto Rico recover from Hurrican Maria

Exit Videos
If only more directors could find a way to harness Kate Beckinsale's natural wit in movies. This video made me LOL so much. Watch every second of it, please. Below that is a Justice League if it were made in the 80s "opening credits" sequence. Cute and weirdly plausible which I'm not sure is a compliment to the movie which is about to open.

❤️ @lily_sheen 😘

Counter argument: Name a worse or more embarrassing song of hers than "Look What You Made Me Do."

@Arlo-I can't think of anything. Plus, I really think she's got some serious psychological problems in handling criticism.

Kate Beckinsale needs to be in better films as I feel like she was robbed of an Oscar nod for Love & Friendship as she was such a delight to watch.

cant wait to see Pfeiffer, Kidman, Janney, Metcalf, Chau and Hunter in the LA TIMES SUPPORTING ACTRESS ROUNDTABLE. Not sure when they release the videos but this is def. one of the best lineups they ever had.

Arlo - While "Look What You Made Me Do" is not that great I'd have to say it's not her worst song at all. That title goes to her song "Never Grow Up" which is unspeakably high on that list. I personally found myself irritated the more I went through the list because quite a few of my favorites from her ended up being ranked very low, but hey art is subjective.

Tarantino can't beat the astonishingly well rendered year of 1969 according to Mad Men.

LWYMMD is not great but it's not awful either. She tried something daring and didn't pull it off. Sparks Fly is much worse. Love how he describes Red, one of the best songs of this decade. And I agree with No 1.

I’m assuming a review/fan post re MOTOE is forthcoming Nat?

I grew up reading Liz Smith too. Yes, it's true she wasn't a great writer but she seems to have lead a fabulous life and appeared to be a really nice lady. R.I.P.

it appears zendaya's act in the greatest showman is time traveling from 2017 to bring some sassy girl attitude to the oldy-timey proceedings

Netflix isn't free

Been waiting to see MUDBOUND ever since I've heard glowing notices for Mary J. Blige at Sundance. Sadly it's not opening in my city, so I'm planning a weekend trip up to LA (where it'll be in four theaters - Laemmle / iPic chains) because I feel like I'll have a better experience seeing it for the first time theatrically. Gonna make it a double feature with REVOLT since I love Lee Pace and it's doing a VOD/limited theater run, where the *only* theater screening it in the state of California is...AMC Covina?

I had been wondering about the Kevin Spacey thing. Although now there's going to be clauses in all contracts, isn't there? It's a bit code era needing your stars to be squeaky clean, but this goes beyond just being a drunk or a womanizer so I think it'll be appropriate.

"Look What You Made Me Do" can't possibly be the worst Taylor Swift song when it has a bridge as great as the one it has.

What a shame people didn't recognise Kate Beckinsale's brilliance in "Love and Friendship". The perfect melding of performer and character.

I'd love the Globes to give a nod to Ingrid Goes West...

If it weren't for Look What You Made it to Do, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men would have lost the record for longest-running #1 hit to freaking Despecito!!!! I shall begrudgingly respect it for all of time.

November 15, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJakey

I agree Beckinsale deserves better work. A decade ago I'd probably say she should work with Woody Allen, but that's clearly not the wisest of choices these days. I bet she'd fare well in a Yorgos Lanthimos film.

Jakey - thank you for understanding this!!! lol

Also wow I love that Kate Beckinsale insta post; I died.
