Tweetweek: Actors Stanning Other Actors and Glenn Close Tributes

Oh but this one made me giggle!

After the jump new and frankly awesome slang from the UK, movie tropes, actors praising other actor's great performances, ABBA songs, quality Glenn Close content, Green Book scandals, and more...

...and finally this question really made me think because what is more important for joy (which we need more of) than loving ABBA?

For the record my answer was:

  • The Name of the Game (all time fav ABBA song)
  • One of Us (other all time fav ABBA song)
  • Take a Chance on Me (the least overplayed of their biggest hits)
  • Summer Night City (disco!)
  • The Way Old Friends Do! (nostalgia from a band that makes ya nostalgic to close out the mini-concert)

AMEN on the love for Haley Lu Richardson! One of those great performances this year that NO ONE is talking about. She’s light incarnate in that, and so different than she was in “Columbus”. Always strange to see which campaigns catch the narrative winds of the zeitgeist, and which diamonds just seem to stay buried by the glut of other names that repeatedly ring the “consensus” bell. Some of my other lost-in-the-shuffle favorites with inexplicably no real 2018 awards traction: Ruth Wilson in “Dark River”, Kathryn Hahn in “Private Life”, Julianne Nicholson in “Who We Are Now”, Simon Russell Beale and Steve Buscemi in “The Death of Stalin”, Sissy Spacek in “The Old Man and the Gun”, and John C. Reilly (doing what I think may be career-best work, and as a leading man) in “The Sisters Brothers.”

Elsie Fisher looks just like Helen Hayes.

ABBA are my favourite band (and one of the joys of my life!) and I love so much of what they have done that this answer might change tomorrow, but today my five songs for the concert are:
As Good As New
Lay All Your Love On Me
I Wonder (Departure)
Slipping Through My Fingers
Dancing Queen

Shayna McHayle gave the best supporting performance in Support the Girls.

Might've been funnier if the gay club was playing "Shallow," but that wouldn't have been much fun to dance to, would it?

Abba songs:
1) Eagle
2) I'm a Marionette
3) The Visitors
4) The Name of the Game
5) Does Your Mother Know?

"One of Us" is a no-brainer, but no one mentioned "The Winner Takes It All", the best song ABBA ever sung? That was actually the first 45 I remember getting, and I didn't even have to buy it, some cereal company or something had a promotion where you could get a free 45 - I honestly don't remember the details anymore - and I chose that single. I would love to know what the other choices were, LOL.

My personal five would be:
Fernando
The Name of the Game
Take a Chance on Me
The Winner Takes It All
One of Us (and why did this song never chart on the Hot 100? That is crazy!!!)

Let's see...

1. Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)
2. Take a Chance on Me
3. The Day Before You Came
4. Does Your Mother Know
5. Ring Ring

I want to put a mix of great singles but also songs that not many people know like "The Day Before You Came" which I think is underrated.
