It's the only Oscar podcast you'll hear that doesn't discuss The Incident! Instead we talk about our first Oscar nights as children as well as what we liked about Sunday's show (yes, there were a few things) and then the conversation drifts towards what's next. What do we hope to see from some of the actors and directors in the future?

Final Oscar Predictions: Will win? Could win? Should win?

CODA and Power of the Dog face off on Oscar night this Sunday.

Y'all, I'm tired here at TFE HQ. It's been a bear of a couple of years with the pandemic and we pray never again to have Oscar seasons this long. Late April in 2021 and late March in 2022 were ROUGH and by the end of it everyone was exhausted and angry and combative about movies they previously loved. Early February when people are still really obsessed with their favourites (the Parasite year) was perfect! In the final weeks via BAFTA, CCA, SAG, DGA, PGA, and the others guilds we saw top prizes for CODA and for Power of the Dog but lots of mixed messaging. Will Best Actress (the only acting prize with any wiggle room) really go to Chastain? What the hell is going to win Best Editing since there's been absolutely no consensus there?!

Oscar Volley: Best Picture in the final days...

ABE FRIEDTANZER: I'm thrilled to be talking the top Oscar prize with my esteemed colleagues Eric, Elisa, and Baby Clyde. I do think there's plenty to discuss here, but I believe that one film is very far out in front. That's The Power of the Dog, of course, which some may doubt after it missed out on an ensemble nomination from SAG. There is absolutely momentum for CODA after its win there and its triumph the night after that with the Hollywood Critics Association. But Dog also underperformed with nominations from the latter group, so the comparison isn't all that helpful. There just isn't enough going against Jane Campion's western for it to lose, in my opinion. But there are nine other nominees, and at least a few of those will siphon votes. Aside from CODA, King Richard gets a boost from its ACE Eddie win, and Drive My Car is worth considering since it hasn't been in competition with many other groups. What films do you think are still in the mix?

The Writers Guild of America has revealed their winners for the 2021 film and television year and it's good news for Adapted CODA and Original Don't Look Up as they head towards Oscar night a week from now. MATT ST. CLAIR: Hello all. So, in Best Adapted Screenplay, I think that it remains Jane Campion's to lose but Maggie Gyllenhaal could be The Lost Daughter's sole win here instead, given the clear passion it has. What do you guys think?
