Time for another round of our silly Instagram-time-wasting distraction. Would you rather...

...have a double-ginger moment with Isabelle & Juli?
...see Dumbo with Dame Helen?
... share a meal with a Quokka and a Hemsworth?
...cuddle a lamb with Vera Farmiga?

NYFF: Olivier Assayas' "Non-Fiction"

Jason Adams reporting on the New York Film Festival which kicks off Friday night.

Calling a movie "Woody-Allen-ish" in 2018 is less of a double-edged sword than it is a single-edged one - there's not a lot of benefit; mostly just wounds. And yet Olivier Assayas' Non-Fiction kind of demands the comparison to Classic Woody - it's about a group of chatty literate urbanites having  literate urbane chats in luxurious apartments and outfits, all of them sleeping with each other while being obsessed with death and sex and books, order TBD. It's terribly witty in that very specific way that certain New Yorkers love, where they can turn to the person next to them and smile and nod, everybody content that hey, they got that one.

And listen, hey, I am one of those Certain New Yorkers myself, so I'm allowed to make fun...

Beauty Break: The Men of Cannes

Vasilli Schneider & Niels Schneider

Remember French-Canadian Niels Schneider, the object of affection for both the male and female leads of Xavier Dolan's Heartbeats? Apparently he's but one of 4 (!) And here's Vasilli and Niels together at the premiere of Knife + Heart at Cannes.

In our enthusiastic relentlessness about actresses we invariably ignore actors so before the final ceremony let's not let Cannes end without a visual tribute to the best snacks at Cannes...

Tribeca 2017: Guillaume & Marion in "Rock'n Roll"

Here's Jason Adams reporting from the Tribeca Film Festival

As the fifth movie I saw in a single day at the Tribeca Film Festival this past weekend (a new personal record!) I couldn’t have chosen wiser – Guilluame Canet’s movie star satire Rock'n Roll is as broad and goofy and absurd as they come, and while it might overstay its welcome (I’d say no comedy should run over two hours but Toni Erdmann did recently prove that golden rule incorrect) it’s also a lively good-natured farce that had the audience half rolling in the aisles.

Canet co-wrote and directed Rock'n Roll, and he stars as Guillaume Canet, famous French actor and director, partnered with and father to the child of Marion Cotillard, world-famous Oscar winning actress – the two actors (and a troupe of famous French faces that they enlist to star alongside them and fill out their world) all send up their own images, taking them to absurd (and man does it go there) extremes...
