Luca Guadagnino has dropped another project

Back when Luca Guadagnino first announced his plans to remake Suspiria, many were skeptical – me included. Why would we need a new take on the material when Argento's 1977 classic is such a candy-colored masterpiece? It turns out that Guadagnino was idiosyncratic enough to get away with it, proposing such a distinct vision that comparing it to the other movie feels beside the point. Hence, when the director told the world he'd helm a Scarface remake from a Coen Bros. script, the consensus was more hopeful than before. Streaming Roulette (Oct 3rd-9th): Call Me By Your Queerest Fear

Each of us has heaven and hell in him.

As many of you have gleaned your host here has been struggling this past month. So as ever we take solace in the movies and we've been gorging of late so time for another streaming catch-up. We've realized of late that in attempting to do too many things here at TFE -- we are after all not Variety or The New York Times --  we do too little. So we have to streamline / simplify. Our first victim is Streaming Roulette. Rather than a monthly series in which we try to highlight EVERYTHING that's new to streaming on all the services, we're going to recommend a handful of titles weekly just for an excuse to talk about them. We'll keep the "roulette" part which is to say we'll freeze frame randomly on the scroll bar and that's the image we'll share as visual (What? We like our gimmicks).

How Timothée’s Elio Changed Me

Oscar nominee and Twitter boyfriend Timothée Chalamet celebrates his 25th birthday today. With a film career that spans less than a decade, Chalamet already made a huge cultural mark by becoming the youngest Best Actor nominee since 1939 for his work in 2017’s Call Me by Your Name. Adapted from the novel by André Aciman, the film tells the story of the romance between Elio (Chalamet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer) in the summer of 1983 in northern Italy. While Chalamet has continued to do interesting work, he has yet to match the widespread critical acclaim that he earned for this performance. 

It is then just apt for me to celebrate his birthday by recounting the very precious moment of being introduced to him by watching Call Me by Your Name for the first time and its profound impact on me. This is going to be some candid storytelling so fasten your seatbelts...
