2022 Emmy Category Analysis: Comedy Guest Acting Categories

After a thirteen year stranglehold on the guest acting categories, "Saturday Night Live" only has one host nominated this year: rising stand up star Jerrod Carmichael.By: Christopher James

Though there is no shortage of television these days, we know Emmy voters only watch a handful of shows. Nowhere is this more starkly pronounced than in the guest acting categories. Name recognition (the title of the show first, the fame of the actor second) tends to determine the nods. Just five shows take up all twelve nomination slots this season.

But in a chance of pace, Saturday Night Live isn’t the main culprit. The comedy guest acting categories have long been dominated by the legendary variety show. We usually see, at minimum, two to three nominees for SNL in these categories. In 2022, though, Jerrod Carmichael is the show's sole nominee here. Will he win, or will someone from the other popular comedies edge him out? Hacks has five guest comedy nods (nearly 50% of the nominations), while Ted Lasso has three and Only Murders in the Building two.

Who will come out ahead? Let’s take a look at the categories...

Final Emmy Predictions: Limited Series/TV Movie and Acting Categories

By: Abe Friedtanzer, Chris James, Cláudio Alves, and Nathaniel Rogers

There's a competitive race afoot in the Limited Series category, which sports competitors like "Dopesick," "The White Lotus" and "Maid."

We’ve come to the end of Team Experience’s Emmy Awards predictions. As we discussed the past two days, the Drama and Comedy categories can often default to past nominees. With the Limited Series and TV Movie categories, nominating panels are dealing with blank slates each year. Over the past ten years, the concept of a Limited Series has gone from being a less-popular oddity to a popular way to tell the buzziest of stories. Just this year, we saw three different ripped from the headline tech shows across three streamers. It doesn’t have to be all dramas or true stories. Mike White used cringe comedy to create one of the most memorable pieces of TV this year with The White Lotus. There are no shortage of great programs to nominate, even if the number of slots may be less than its Drama and Comedy counterparts. Nominations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards will be announced at 8:30am on Tuesday, July 12th by Melissa Fumero and JB Smoove.

Final Emmy Predictions: Drama Series and Acting Categories

By: Chris James, Abe Friedtanzer, Cláudio Alves, and Nathaniel Rogers

Can Succession win a second Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series this year?

The Drama field at the Emmys is ripe for change. With most of last year's big contenders out of the running due to timing (The Handmaid's Tale and The Crown did not air new episodes this year) or shows ending (Lovecraft Country, Pose), there is plenty of room for newbies. The main question is, will past Emmy juggernauts, like Succession and Better Call Saul, return in full force or will new shows, like Squid Game and Severance, fill the void.? Over the next couple of days, Team Experience will also be providing predictions for the comedy and limited series categories as well. Nominations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards will be announced at 8:30am on Tuesday, July 12th by Melissa Fumero and JB Smoove.
